Progression 1

1st Progression:

3v6 Man v Man Pressing

Progression time: 18 Minutes (2 minutes on, 1 minute break)

Grid Size: 15yd width 30 yd Length (separated by center line)

Equipment: Balls, 9 Vests (3 Blue, 3 Pink, 3 Yellow), two (2) 4x6 goals

Teams: 3 teams of 3 players

Two teams of 3 start in each half of a 15yd wide by 30yd length grid divided by a center line.

Two teams are in possession while one team is designated as defender

The two possessing teams must make 3 passes consecutively before they can transfer the ball to the other half. The defending team try’s to play man-2-man and win the ball and finish into the 4x6 goal sitting 3 yards off the end line.

The games are 2 minutes. Points are awarded only to the defending team for every goal that they score. Once the 3 minutes are up, the teams will rotate after a 1 minute break.

Progression 2

Progression 2:

7v7 Pressing with Transition & Possession

Progression Time: 21 Minutes (5 minutes on, 2 minute break)

Grid Size: 30yd width x 50 yd Length (separated by center line)

Equipment: Balls, 14 Vests (7 Pink, 7 Yellow), two (2) 24 x 8  goals

Teams: 2 teams of 8 players (7 Field Players + 1 Goalkeeper)

The purpose is to win the ball and score from the man-2-man press in the attacking half.

Each half of the grid starts in a 3v4 scenario. Each team can never have less than 3 players in each half, and never more than 4 players. Prior to the match, the teams should be instructed to choose 1 player from the other team that they will be man marking. This is to get them used to following and pressing individuals.

The progression starts with the coach playing a neutral ball in the air. Points are earned in two manners.

1) Pressing team wins the ball in the attacking half and scores a goal within 3 touches. As if they were high pressing, win the ball and create a quick chance. If they are unable to create a chance in 3 touches, the ball goes out and the coach plays a new ball into their defense to try and build out of the back.

2) Building into the attacking half from the defensive half. If a team transitions the ball to their attackers from the defensive half, and can make 5 passes in the attacking half before losing possession, they get a point. This creates the building out of the back to the middle third. Once they get 5 passes, the ball goes out and the coach plays a new ball into their defensive players

The only time a team goes to goal is if they win the ball in their attacking half.
