Ind/Small Sided Defending (Coaching Notes)
-You have introduce the concept of Pressure, cover, and balance. The 1st defneder presses on the ball, the 2nd defender immediately provides support, and the 3rd defender is the balancing player
-Defending is a science
-Numbers Down: Dely
Numbers Even: Deny
Numbers Up: Destory
-Compactness, and squeezing the ball into "pockets" in order to win the ball back quickly

Stage I Progresion "Rattler: 1v1, 2v2s Finishing"
-Four lines, two defending lines and two attacking lines
-1A plays the ball into 1B and they go 1v1 to goal
-Once the first 1v1 is over (Ball is scored, kicked out of bounds, or defender wins the ball) 2A plays the second ball into 2B for a 2v2 situation with 1A and 1B
Coaching Points:
-Close down as quick as possible
-Attack with speed
-"Punish" the defender if they make a mistake, or are too slow
-8 seconds to score or it's over
-Normally rotate clockwise, but can spilt into two groups and make it a competition

Stage II Small Sided Activity "Continuous 3v2"
-30x20 Grid
-Continuous 3v2 (ATT. Principles)
-Need 4 teams of three(4 different color pennies)
-2 new defenders (Blue ) are ready to step on once Team 1 (Red) losses possesion or scores
-If Green wins possesion, they must play the back to their 3rd defender before counter attacking, then the two new red defenders step on
Coaching Points
-Don't get flat so that you do not get spilt
- The 1st defender must step quickly to provide pressure
-Attack with speed as you're numbers up in offense
-Strech the pitch and provide options (Principles of attack)

Stage III Expanded Small Activity "6v4 Defending"
-1/3 of the field going towards a big goal
-6v4
-4 defenders must start on the cone before getting into defensive shape
-The attacking team(Red) must begin with a pattern and then can play free
-3 plays the ball to 4, and then overlaps. 1 makes a digonal run and 2 overlaps that player
-Two CMs join attack to create a 6v4

-Angle and speed of approach
- Purpose is to delay attacker
-Close down as quick as possible, directing them where you want them to go (make it obvious)
-Jockey them backwards keeping a low center of gravity and eyes on the ball
-Wait for a mistouch to tackle (poke, block, or slide)
