Skill Training-1 (15 mins)

Set Up:

  • Players: 12-14
  • Grid size: 2 x 30m x 20m

Explanation:

  • Split the playing area into thirds. Two teams of three should begin in the middle third.
  • Whichever team is in possession must make a certain number of passes before they can attack to score in either goal.
  • Once they’ve made that certain number of passes, play can progress into a 1v1 in one of the attacking thirds.
  • The ball can either be passed or dribble into the final third, however, only one player per team can be in the end zone.
  • Teams can attack either of the goals, but they must be in the end zone to score.
  • If the defender wins possession of the ball, they must play back into the middle zone and that team must then keep the ball for a specific number of passes before they can score.

Key Coaching Points:

  • Can you take your first touch forward and away from the defender
  • Can you attack at speed
  • Can you use your body to protect the ball
  • Can you look to use 1v1 moves to help them evade the defender and score. If the defender is beside them, changes of direction can help them to turn and attack the space either side of the defender.
