Receiving to Turn (15 mins)

Passing/Receiving Technical Warm Up

Coaching Points:

  • Weight of the pass
  • Attack on a sprint
  • Change direction to create angle
  • Open hips, allowing ball to run across your body to turn
  • Receive with back foot
  • 3 touch max

Passing repetition (15 mins)

Organization

  • 15x 10
  • Partners 1 ball
  • Cones distributed as the diagram shows

Instructions

  • Make two lines of players, one of each side of the yellow cones.
  • Have no more than 6 players per channel
  • Players go with its partner passing the ball through the yellowcones. As they arrive to the other side of the channel, the 2 playersfacing them will go next.
  • Every time player arrives to a side of the channel they will get apoint
  • Count how many individual/ groups points can you get in 2 minsCoach will teach combination (s) according to the level of theplayers (see below for coaching points)

Coaching Points

Wall pass-

1st attacker engaged the defender by dribbling towards him.

Pass the ball with the outside of the foot closest to the partner to be diseptive.Players must pass ball back with one touch in front of teammate

Give and Go:

1st attacker engaged the defender by dribbling towards him.

Pass the ball with the outside of the foot closest to the partner to be diseptive.

Players must pass ball back with one touch in front of teammate but this pass is longer than the wall passUse teammate as a decoy: Pretend to pass but take it into space created.

Overlap-

Pass the ball to teammate ahead of you

Teammate takes a touch inside to draw defender in

Player that initially passed the ball will go behind and around the team mate

Player that has the ball will pass the ball with the outside of the foot into space in behind defender

  • Communication 
  • Player that goes around will say Hold Which means the player on the ball needs to hold on the ball.
  • Player also has to say Thought Which means the player on the ball will have to pass the ball into space in behind defender.Use teammate as a decoy: Pretend to pass but take it into space created.

Progressions

Add goals. See how many goals can they score in 90 seconds.

Screen 3 (15 mins)

Same as last drill but the 11 will drop in half position and and set the 10 the 10 will pass to the 4 who overlaps.

Rondos (15 mins)

2 x Rondos side by side if numbers allow (8 minutes total)

Prevent ball going through middle, get into the habit of moving laterally quickly (sliding across to cover gaps). There will be punishment for more than 10 passes completed in a row. 

Whoever makes the error goes into the middle along with the person to their left.

Progression: Flying Changeover of pressing players between Rondo A & Rondo B when coach calls "Switch".

Warm up (15 mins)

Set up

  • 1 ball
  • 7 players Minimum
  • 6 cones

Drill 

Station 1 - 6 (ST1-6)

All players follow their pass

  • 1- Player at ST1 passes to player at ST2 -  Player receives the ball on the half turn with the back foot (Furthest from the ball) - Practice for the main drill
  • 2- Player at ST2 passes to player at ST3
  • 3- Player at ST3 dribbles to ST4, plays a 1 yard pass to player at ST4.
  • 4- Player at ST4 passes to player at ST5 -  Player receives the ball on the half turn with the back foot (Furthest from the ball) - Practice for the main drill
  • 5- Player at ST5 passes to player at ST6
  • 6- Player at ST6 dribbles to ST1, plays a 1 yard pass to player at ST1.
  • 7- Repeat 

Key points of focus.

  • Quality of pass - weight of pass
  • Control - receive on the back foot, correct body shape. Good cushioned first touch just in front of them..
  • Talking - Every player should be calling for the ball. 

Progression

  • Add a second ball starting at station 4 as station one starts.
  • Limit touches at ST2&5

2 sets back to 1

1 plays 3

3 sets back to 1

1 plays 4

The players standing by the left blue mannequin (2) joins the line behind 1 at the end of their sequence, and 1 goes to where 2 was.

When the sequence is repeated facing the other side; the player by the right blue mannequin (3) joins the line behind 4, and 4 goes to where 3 was.

The players standing on the mannequins are to loop around them when the ball is played from 1 to 4, or 4 to 1.

Passing (10 mins)

Set up with 2 cones / poles / flats 5m apart. 2 players opposite each other 10m away from the poles.

Player starts on one pole and makes a sharp movement towards the outside of the other pole, player receives the ball and plays a 1-2 to give the ball back to the outside man. 

Player then makes another sharp movement back towards the other pole, receives back foot, turns out and plays a pass to the opposite side man. 

Player then repeats the above sequence with the new player. 

Work for 30 / 45 / 60s and rest 1:1 or 1:2
