Turning quickly (10 mins)

Organisation: Groups of 4 min. As long as you want your passes to be to the center. Size should be at least 10 paces to the center - wanting to make meaningful / game style passes.

Rules: Player off the ball will receive ball at middle, turn and pass to player in own box.

Player that started with the ball then advances to center, turns with the ball and passes it back to player in their own box and so on

Let them do it once first then coach a bit on these points.

Coaching points:

  • Space is your friend, do not go too early
  • Problem - timing of getting into the space, get there early, you stand still, easy to mark
    • 3 second rule - if you get into space, do not get the ball - what to do? Get out after 3 seconds...
  • Practice scanning at center for defender - lay arm back to feel if a defender is close
    • Watch your run - did you block the 2nd man outlet? man on other side? Are you blocking 2 routes on your run. if finding feet, how many can the player with the ball pass to? 
    • 2 things matter in support - angles and distance

    2nd Exercise (10 mins)
