Technique (10 mins)

THE SESSION:

  • Set Up - same as warm up, each player remains with a ball. Alternate between practice and keep away rounds.
  • Practice Round consists of Ball Manipulation techniques - One footed zig zags (inside/outside) done with both feet then roll overs (bottom of the foot) done with both feet
  • Keep Away Round consists of coaches chasing players who can perform previous Practice Round skill to get out of their pressure (coaches should be on the lookout for the proper skill, if it is done they move to a different player.

Athletic Development (10 mins)

THE SESSION:

  • Set up - 20 x 30 pace grid for 12 kids, adjust accordingly if needed. Make it multicolored, at least two or three cones per color and three different colors. Players run freely on coaches command then race to color when coach says so.

PROGRESSIONS:

  • Coach says number, at which point players must congregate at any cone in those groupings.
  • Each player has a ball, same games.

THE SESSION:

  • Set Up - Replace two goals with cones (See diagram)
  • Free play 3v3. Set up one field per 6 players

1v1 Domination/Outplaying (15 mins)

THE SESSION:

  • Set up - Leave just the four corner cones and replace others with goals. (See diagram) Each player occupies one of the sections around the field. Each player assigned a number. Set up one field per 6 players
  • Coach calls two numbers to go out and play each other, can score on any goals

PROGRESSIONS:

  • Players keep their number but move to a new section

  • Find the open goal
  • Use your various surfaces to manipulate the ball away from opponent to find open goal
