The shot
We now have a view down the line the ball will travel on its way towards the goal.
The green arrow is the direction the goalkeeper should dive to, you can see by this that the goalkeeper will dive square to the line of the ball - see next slide

The Dive - 1
From the overhead camera we can again see that the line of the goalkeepers dive (green) is square to the line of flight of the ball (red)
What we can also see from this angle is that the goalkeeper has dived forward, (his diving line is not parallel with the goal line.
The finishing position of the goalkeeper should be with him having his chest facing the stiker who has just taken then shot (see next slide)

The Dive - 2
The goalkeeper has now completed his dive and has made a great, text book save.
You can see that his chest is facing the direction the ball came from, his hands are out in front of him and he is the local hero
At the other end of the pitch.......

Backwards Diving
At the other end of the pitch we have a goalkeeper who has not been trained by REACT.
You can see from the overhead camera that he dives backwards, not only does he nearly go into his own goal, he does not reach the ball and we score a goal, the crowd go crazy
You can also see by his finishing position that his chest is facing out to the sideline, no-where near where the shot came from

Set Posistion
Set posistion
In this example we have a striker away to take a shot from dead centre of the goal.
(Blue marker lines have been added to show the flight of the ball should the ball hit the post)
In order for the goalkeeper to save any shot he has to be in a position that he is able to touch both of these lines with his dive
The goalkeeper is set for the shot by having:
Heels lifted slightly off the ground
Feet shoulder width apart
Knees slightly bent
Knees. hips and shoulders all pointing towards the ball
Hands in a central position
Head behind the ball
Watching the ball all the times
At the 'trigger point' there should be NO movement, the goalkeeper has to be ready to move in any direction within a 360ø
