This is an attacking/defending exercise that begins as a 1v1 and progresses to a 1v2 if the attacker does not proceed quickly.
Play beings with A playing a ball across to C, who receives and quickly attacks near goal. A immediately engages C defensively as soon as pass is made. Upon first touch by C, D joins in as a second defender.
The objective of C is to attack quickly and keep the play as a 1v1, not allowing defender D to join and create a 1v2.
As soon as the first phase resolves (shot, goal, defender wins ball), B attacks far goal and C must quickly transition to defense.
Player rotation is A>B>C>D.
Coaching points:
-Positive first touch by attacker
-Attack quickly, take advantage of 1v1
-First defender makes appropriate curved run to close down attacker early and force to where help will arrive
-Quick transition by attacker to defense in second phase.
