Specific

Creating and exploiting overloads.

Matthew Copner

0A3 UEFA B licence

specific

0-1 minute -- talk about overlaps and underlaps, this will be for both full backs. If winger is wide full back underlaps, winger rolls inside full back overlaps, this means we will create overloads in wide areas. Talk about players off ball, so when 2 v 1 happen can ST make movement in box and the other winger.

2-3 minute -- if cannot exploit overload or lose ball. stop the practice and introduce Pivot players, so CM drops off and CB drops meaning if we cannot take advantage off the 2 v 1 we can play back to the pivot players and we then can look to switch the play to try to take advantage on the other side off the pitch

4-5 minute -- talk about creating overloads in middle off park, so can exploit the overloads on the side. Talk about ST dropping in and CB bringing ball forward, so we can create overload in middle off park, then can bounce ball outside to winger for one on one or use full back.

6-7 minute -- talk about when we lose ball, press really high and try win ball back in 5 seconds if we don't the play restarts

what if's

blue team sits in low block how can we create overloads, so talk about overloads in middle off park

press us high this will be the first what if introduced in the specific practice

formation

blue teams are in a 3-4-1 system. The other team will play with 3 CB'S.

the team im coaching are playing a 3-3-2 formation.

challenges

red team- first time finish, limit touches

blue team, stay narrow compact and leave furthest player got 10 seconds to get goal, so the team in possession has good ball rolling time

1st combination

when the ball is played into winger feet the outside CB creates overlaps to create 2v1. one of the ST comes to feet one runs in behind, other winger makes run in.

stop there when ball is in winger feet can we create 2 v 1 with the winger can one of the sT come to show feet so might play ball to them, other two runs in box so focus on off ball movement

main stop with loads off detail

created 2 v 1 but other team are stopping it

freeze there we are now losing the ball when having overload. So can my CB can you come across to act as a pivot player, CM can you look to receive in the pocket. Meaning if we cannot create overload play it back to CM or CB on their back foot with good ball speed so they can switch play to other side. Outside Cb what is your starting position so can it be a little bit higher but come inside so you are not on same line as the winger

Blue team are now in low block, so they are tired and don't want to press

CB now be brave step in with ball, when that happens two STRIKERS DROP IN TO CREATE 4 V 3 overload in middle off park. New challenge 3 passes in middle then look to play wide to create 1 v 1 and 2 v 1. so winger provide width for us. Then the outside CB underlaps now.

When lose ball the two closes players press the ball, then one player comes in behind so one pass do not split them.

0-1 minute -- introduce match and what targets will be set for the match. They will reds can only score if full back does a underlap or overlap and crosses the ball, and iff they manage to get an overload in middle off park. SO helps them understand and remember what we did in the practice

2-4 minute -- talk about the GK, so how can he  be used as an overload when building up the play from back or if we are in trouble use them as pivot player so can play out other way

5-6 minute -- technical detail on pass, weight off pass, type off pas and playing safe side.

7-8 minute -- talk abut CB stepping in middle off mark, ST dropping in but then triggers off ball, so when ST drops in one off the midfield runners makes 3 third man run through the defenders. SO help them understand. trigger point.

10-11 minute -- talk about 2 v 1 detail, so if player press or don't press winger what does he need to do. And if he presses what type off ball should he play to full back,. If he don't press can he cross or run on and take a shot.

12-13 minute -- technical detail so remind them playing safe side and keep spaces between them meaning do not ball watch or invite pressure.

what if's

press high how to create overloads

sit in low block how to create overloads

Speak to keeper by himself.

can the keeper help the defence by coming out to call for ball so can be used as pivot player if cannot play out or we can create another overload with him. Then when ball is high can he come out ooff goals and act as another defender

Freeze there 30 second stop technical detail

stop the CM trying to receive the ball right next to Cb, tell him to stay in his position and look to receive safe side, meaning look to be on an angle, and receive on back foot so ball needs to be fast

New challenge got to create overload in wide area to score

freeze there created overload In wide area but bad decision making. If full presses you can you look to play outside Cb, then what detail off pass are we looking for. If full back follows the run off outside Cb you can either run into the space, or look to player to the ST who is showing feet, then play them on their back foot so they can be on goal

Main pattern off play

so created 2 v 1 on outside but played back to CB looking at another principle off play breaking lines playing through round or over. Can the CB look to break the midfield line and pass into striker feet, so other than switching the play can we look to play forward. So there is tactical detail and technical detail.

5th coaching point.

Last pattern off play, the ball is back to the CB can he look to switch the play to the winger who should have a good starting position meaning he should have a 1 v 1 against a defender.
