If Then 1st Touch Exercise
4 players to a group one ball per group
2 rows of cones/sticks perpendicular form a passing lane between two players (or lines of players).
Player with the ball passes down the lane and then chooses a side to run down.
The receiving player must recognize this and make their first touch to the opposite side, keep control and dribble to end of line.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Divide into two groups of 6-8 (6 is a hard minimum for the later variations
No following pass, just reps of receiving across the body
Open to the field
First touch in the direction of the next pass
Add more than one ball
With one ball, go diagonal-square with every other pass.
Can we add more than one ball going diagonal-square?
Must play away from pressure and plan ahead.

Circle Passing Variation 1
Players arrange in a circle with one ball at a players feet, Nancy.
Nancy starts play by passing across the circle to Tina and following pass
Tina plays it back across the circle to Nancy checking in.
The waiting players, Linda and Betty on either side of Tina, are the two choices for Nancy to now pass to.
One touch only!
Linda or Betty, who ever receives the pass, must know where they are going to play the ball before it gets to them so they can one touch it across and check in repeating the cycle

Circle Passing Variation Two
Now we are looking to hit the first receiver running with a little combo
Linda starts the ball across the circle to Tina
Tina passes back to Linda who is checking to the ball through the center
Upon passing the ball back, Tina now moves into the center of the circle and Linda plays the ball to one of the players adjacent to Tina, Linda or as in the example, Betty
Betty then plays the ball across to the runner Tina. Tina can now find a person to pass to and restart the cycle.
One touch but sometime two are needed to keep the flow and timing right.
Players know the pattern so they should be able to practice thinking a move a head.
Body shape, proper touches and communication
Off ball players are not stagnant, they should be on toes and constantly adjusting spacing of the circle. They will get complacent so be prepared to have the outside players do some DownUpUps or other physical activity while not involved in a certain sequence. Also good for reading the game practice.
Once use to the pattern, add a second ball if enough players (8 is minimum).
Must play away from pressure with a second ball.
This is a third man running sequence and could be an Up Back Through sequence depending on what way the players imagine the field oriented. Can the players name the passes if this were an Up Back Through sequence? If the initial pass from Linda across to Tina is the setting pass, which way is "up" in the illustration?

Circle Passing Variation Z
Additional player to help fill in shape of circle (I often step in to the circle to give a little more shape)
Two players inside the circle designated 1 and 2.
New player Alice starts out as 1 and Margaret will start as 2, both moving within the circle.
Rose will start the ball with a pass to Alice when she shouts "One".
Rose will enter the circle and become the new 1 when the next cycle starts.
Alice will pass the ball to Margaret when Margaret calls "Two".
Alice will become the new 2 when the next cycle starts.
Margaret will find a pass to a waiting player on the outside of the circle and then rejoin the circle.
The cycle restarts when Rose shouts "One" and Linda plays the ball to her, also entering the circle to become the next 1...
Depending on players available, a third middle player (3) can be added simply by telling the 2 not to exit the circle and assume the 3 pass before exiting the middle.
A second ball can also be added. I like to use one that is a different color design from the first. Instead of numbers the new interior players can be lettered; a,b,c or Spanish number names uno, dos, tres or other sequential system.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Now 2 is going to get in line of the pass and let the ball pass through their legs, they are the dummy in a "dummy pass".
After the ball passes them they peel off and give an angle for 1 to pass to them.
1 becomes the next 2 , dummy, in the next cycle.
2 passes to the outside of the triangle and rejoins the outside players.
A, who started the ball is the new 1 and she and the new 2 repeat the cycle.
