Coaches should aim to improve their players ability use the 4 core skills in match scenarios.
Key actions to coach include:
- 1v1 skills to dribble around an opponent
- Positional awareness in relation to other players on the field
- Passing the ball to teammates in order to make the opposition defence spread open.

Organisation:
Have 2 goals (can be cones or poles) on each goal line and cone out a "scoring zone".
Split group into two teams and partner off.
How to Play:
Player with ball must beat partner in 1v1 duel and score in one of the opposing goals once they enter the scoring zone.
Rotate role of attacker and defender after each attempt.
Rotate opponents every 2 minutes.
Coaching Tips:
Encourage players to engage in 1v1 duels.
Praise attempts to beat a defender.
Small touches when running towards a defender, bigger touches when running away from a defender.
Encourage players to work hard to win the ball back when they lose it.
CHANGEIT / Progressions:
Make the area smaller or bigger as required
Change the scoring method for better players. E.g. they have to dribble in the goal

Organisation:
Game as usual but with 4 goals.
How to Play:
All rules from the weekend with no restrictions or rewards.
Coaching Tips:
Coaches should encourage the same behaviours that they've been working on during the training session.
E.g., "Good job dribbling into open space", instead of just "Good job." OR "Good pass to switch the side we're attacking", rather than "Good pass."
Observe your players and let them play. Observing enables you to see what's working and where to focus in future sessions.
CHANGEIT / Progressions:
Coaches can add rewards for extra points as required. E.g., extra points for more passes, or for more 1v1 attempts, etc.

"Barcelona" Small Sided Game (with a Joker) - STB (20 mins)
Organization: (jokers - play on the team in possession)
Set up a small sided match as you would at the end of your training session.
Split your group of players into 2 teams but make sure to have at least 1 joker. E.g., if you have 11 players you can split your team into 2 teams of 5 + 1 joker. Or if you have a group of 10, split up into 2 teams of 4 + 2 jokers.
How to Play:
Normal match rules with throw-ins, corners, etc.
The Jokers play with whatever team has possession of the ball. E.g., if the blue team has a goalkick, then the yellow players are on the blue team making the game a 6v4.
"Barcelona" rules: Teams earn points according to how many passes they make before scoring. For example, if a team makes 6 passes and scores, they get 6 points. If they make 6 passes but don't score, they get zero points.
Coaching Tips:
Help players to use the extra players and spread out to use the space.
Accurate passing with the inside of your foot.
Attack the space to score goals and earn those points!
CHANGE IT / Progressions:
Coaches can implement a 2-touch/3-touch rule if they want to work on improving the players' first touch.
Coaches can restrict the jokers' movement, e.g. centre of the pitch, or wide areas of the pitch.
