Movement off the ball session 2. Continue working on spacial awareness and moving into pockets of space. Work on combination play in the middle third.

Area:
Use corridors 6m wide x 10m long. Mark out with lines, cones, discs or poles
Equipment:
Balls, discs,cones or poles
Objective:
each corriodor has a feeder either end, 1 receiver inside & 1 defender inside. Each feeder has a ball. the receiver tries to lose the defender who is shadowing his footsteps. The defender is not allow to tackle but only shadow. He calls for the ball from a feeder and plays a 1-2 pass. He then turns out and can either go the the opposite feeder to receive another 1-2 pass or return back to the middle and twist, turn to lose his shadow then burst for a 1-2 with a reciever. after 1 or 1..5 mins, change the players in the middle so all 4 players play the role of the receiver in the middle.
Key points:
emphasise change of pace and quick bursts. in the middle slow down to a walk or stop still the burst and call for the ball. Bend your runs when turning out.
Progression:
Allow the defender to tackle, reduce the size of the area.

Find the pocket!
Aim:
To practice movement off the ball and finding pockets of space to receive the ball.
Area:
create a area suitable for the number of players. 6-8 players = 10m x 10m, 8-12 players = 15m x 15m, 12-16 players = 20m x 20m.Create scoring zones 2m x 2m to suit.
Equipment:
Cones, discs, poles for area, bibs & balls.
Objective:
Split players into 2 teams and start with a possesion based game in the area. To score a point the team in possesion must pass a ball to a team mate who has moved into the scoring zone (the pocket). He then must pass the ball back out to a team mate to complete the pass and score the point. A point is not scored if the man is stood still in the scoring zone waiting. He must be moving into space to recieve the pass.No point is scored if the recievers pass back out the scoring zone is incomplete. The opposition are not allowed to tackle the receiver once he has entered the scoring zone however, he is only allowed 3 seconds inside the scoring zone. One thing to note is players are allowed to pass through the scoring zone or run through them when not in use.The winning team is the team with the most points at the end.
Key points:
Ephasise movement off the ball by scanning the area and bursting into the scoring zone (the pocket). Players inpossesion need to communicate and scan to know where team mates are.
Progression:
Decrease the size of the area to make it more difficult or increase the number of players for that area.
Simplify:
Increase the size of the area. add more scoring zones. Reduce the number of players for the area.

Midfielder Rotation To Receive From Defenders (playing out from the back)
Aim
To work on the movement and rotation of the Midfielders to receive in central areas from our defenders or Goalkeeper.
Basic Objectives split into 3 phases
First phase (blue team):
Session will always start up with a ball into GK's feet, hands, or goal kick. The 2 red attackers must retreat to the start of the defensive third and can start to press when teh keeper makes his first pass.(Defensive third marked with flat markers). Defensive third will be used as a play around with only 3 CB's and opposition forwards allowed in this area. This will enable us time to work on the movement of CM's also decision making of the Defenders. Once the defenders recieves the ball they need to pass the ball to a team mate in the middle third to start the second phase of the practice. There is no restriction on the number of passes but encourage minimal touches and moving the ball quickly.
Second Phase (blue team):
Once the ball has been recieved by the blue team in the middle third they need to complete a minumin of 5 passes in the middle third the proceed to the thirs phase.
Third phase (blue team):
To score a goal a penatrative pass into the endzone must be made to a team mate on the move who can then score in either goal. No defending red team is allowed in the end zone to tackle. If the player is stood waiting for the pass the goal will not count.
Red Team:
The objective for the red team is to try and score a normal goal against the blue team goal keeper. If they win the ball from the defenders in the blue teams defensive third they can shoot. If they win the ball in the middle third they have one possesion phase to make a penatrative pass to the red strikers who can then try to score. If the reds loose possesion in the middle third the practice starts again with the goal keeper. If the ball goes out of play at any stage the practice starts with the goal keeper.
Run the practice for 10 mins then swap over the red and blue teams.
Key Points:
first Phase:
wide CB split and middle CB is central just outside the box. Emphasie the need to create angles for passes.Use the goal keeper for 4 v 2 overload. Scan for an opening to pass to the middle third.
Second Phase:
Off the ball movement is essential to recieve first pass form defensive third. Scan area and move into pockets of space. Once you have passed move off the ball and search for another pocket of space. Third phase:
Timing of the run is essential to play the trough ball breaking the line into the end zone.Take care not overhit the pass.

Shooting under pressure from edge of area.
Player 1 does a 1-2 pass with player 2. HPlayer 2 Then has a big touch and heads towards goal. Player 2 is allowed then to close down player 1. Player 1 has to get his shot away before the line. Once the ball is dead or taken players 1 and 2 swap positions and the excercies then repeats between players 3 & 2 and so on. All players rotate after every go to all be involved and shoot form different positions. More players would cue behind players1,2,3 or could have 3 attackers and 3 defenders rotating stikes at goal.
Key Points
Attacker should have a good first touch infront of them. They should get an early shot away or create 1/2 a yard and shoot. If they double back or hold on to the ball for more than 6 seconds then the phase of play has ended. Defenders close down qickly after 1-2 but stand up not to over comit. Show good bodyshape to send attacker on weaker foot.
