1v1 Angles

Organisation:

  • Red defender starts by passing to the attacker (blue) who looks to score in either the mini goal or dribble through the red gates.
  • If the defender wins the ball back they look to transition to attack either gate on the blue teams side. 
  • Swap roles after 3-4 minutes.
Attacking Key Points:
  • Soft touches to get around defender
  • Big touches to get away from defender
  • Player with head up
  • Change of speed & direction to create space.
  • Shielding the ball
Defending:
  • 'High to low' & 'Fast to slow' as you approach the ball
  • 'Surfer' pose, side on, bent knees
  • Eyes on the ball

Transition:
  • Quick reaction to winning/losing the ball

Side on 1v1

Organisation:

  • Coach plays into the area and two players compete to win the ball.
  • The player who wins the ball has to turn and dribble side gate.
Modify:
  • Put in mini-goals instead of gates.
Attacking Key Points:

  • Soft touches to get around defender
  • Big touches to get away from defender
  • Player with head up
  • Change of speed & direction to create space.
  • Shielding the ball
Defending:
  • 'High to low' & 'Fast to slow' as you approach the ball
  • 'Surfer' pose, side on, bent knees

1v1- 1 touch passing

Organisation:

  • 5 players - 1v1 inside the box
  • The attacker (in blue) looks to receive and play a 1 touch pass off any of the outside players.
  • If the defender wins possession, they become the attacker.
  • Try to make 3 passes to then swap with another outside player.

Modify:

  • Take away one/two balls, make more difficult for attacking player.

Attacking KP's:

  • Quality Passing - Timing, Weight, Accuracy (+10 years)
  • Movement to Receive - double movements
  • Playing with head up - scanning
  • Angles/Distances of Support (+11 years)
  • Body shape - receive on back foot
  • Communication - call for the ball

Transition KP's:

  • Quick Reaction to winning/losing possession

Questions:

  • How can I help my teammate on the ball?
  • What sort of movement should I make before running towards my teammate?

  • Play starts with the red defender passing to the blue attacker.
  • Blue attacker receives and looks to score on goal.
  • Red defender after passing runs through the red gates and tries to get back and defend the goal.
Attacking Key Points:

  • Body over ball when striking
  • Accuracy over power
Defending:
  • Work hard to recover quickly

  • Why do we lean forward when striking the ball?

Organisation:

  • Players start opposite each other. 
  • On coaches command, the attacking player looks to pass to his teammate on the opposite side. 
  • If the defender wins the ball or the ball goes out of play, the opposite team become the attackers.
Modify:
  • Modify the distance depending on age/ability.

  • Big touches to get away from defender
