Ball mastery (15 mins)

12-15min

In squares player will perform various individual technical skills.

General coaching points.

-Encourage that players start all moves slow and progress to doing them faster as they master the skill.

-All skills should be done/perform with both feet.

-Players should make every effort to keep their ball inside their square throughout the skills.

Group A:

Shuffle - bend knees, keep ball in front, use side of big toe to tap the ball back n forth

Side roll & controlling ball with inside of the foot - talk about the roll going accross body and shifting body along with the ball. Utilizing opposite foot to control it, toes up and heel down, making sure foot controlling the ball is not on the ground but above ground.

Pull turn - Ensuring location of the ball in front of player prior to performing the pull.

As ball is being pulled body is turning same time.

L-Turn - For mor advanced players, ensure location of the ball in front of player, ball must be pulled past plant foot and then gently tap across with inside of the foot.

Slide - Foot starts slightly to the side of the ball in the direction the skill is being performed.

Encourage the ball to slide far out to the side and as foot is coming over the ball to bring it inside to use the side of big toe to bring back in.

Staitonary U turn - same coaching points from next slide on unopposed moves.

Staitonary inside of the foot chop - same coaching points from next slide on unopposed moves.

Group B:

Vpull same foot-

talk about opening up hips to go in opposite as ball is being pulled in.

pushing the ball forward and diagonal utilizing inside of the foot toes up heel down.

Inside outside pushes- Encourage proper technique especially on pushing the ball with outside of the foot, toes faced down slightly bend and locked thus pushing/guiding ball with inside of the foot.

L-turn with slide - Location of the ball in front and close to body, pull ball past plant foot, gently tap it with inside of the foot and turn body as body is turn perform slide immediately. Ensure to encourage players to start off slow until skill is mastered.

Change of direction moves w/passing

15min (5min each move)

Practice Organization- See above no more than 4 players in each station and no less than 3 if possible.

On coaches command players will dribble towards the middle cone facing their line perform the below 3 change of direction moves and then make a pass and return to their starting point.

Coaching points:

inside of the foot chop/cut

- Ball should be close to both feet in between body

-Entire foot that chop is being performed with goes around opposite side of the ball

-Use the side of big toe to chop ball & turn hip at the same time to change direction

-Once player shows consistency and mastery, encourage arm to be raised prior to move to fake a shot prior to move.

Uturn

- Ball close to body, before performing move.

- Step on the ball and pull it back in direction coming from while pulling it body opens up/turns.

- Ensure pull is not heavy or to leave ball underneath the idel U turn is performed to leave ball in a perfect spot to continue stride or able player to make pass right away.

- Once player shows consistency and mastery, encourage arm to be raised prior to move to fake a shot prior to move.

L-Turn

-Location of the ball close to body

-Pull the ball slightly pass plant foot

-once ball past plant foot, light tap with inside of the foot away from body

-turn body as soon as ball is tapped with inside of the foot.

-Once player shows consistency and mastery, encourage increase in speed of move.

Slap turn

-Roll foot over the ball and with outside of the foot guide ball back in the direction player just came from

-Foot must stay on the ball throughout the entire move

- Slower motion for weak foot and in general until mastery is evident

-Doing it right/correct vs doing fast and always wrong is more effective over time.

Passsing coaching points

- players must be behind the ball prior to passing not to the side

- Toes up, heel down, make sure they are opening up their foot completely

- Encourage players to make eye contact prior to passing the ball, they must look at their ball upon hitting it

1v1's with gates

15 minutes:

Practice Organization: Set up an area of 10x15 with 4 gates and 2 teams across field from each other

Details:

On coaches command player from team 1 plays ball across to player from team 2, 1v1 competition, player from team 2 scores by dribbling the ball through any of the 2 gates across, must have control when dribbling the ball through the gates. Team to get 2 points if any of the change of direction moves perfomed to score is the moves working on for that day, but encourage players to use any move 1 point for any other move and being successful. Defending player can counter when stealing the ball.

10second games max. After 6 to 7 minutes switch roles of teams

Coaching points:

-Encourage players to do change of direction moves fast

-Encourage players to set up the defender by having him/her going one way then switching to opposite gate.

- Being creative and deceitful

- Keep ball close to feet
