Welsh Way Principles
Understand when and how to combine, create and finish
Organization/Area Size
50 x 70m tapered one end.
9 v 8 including GK either side. Reds play in a 4-3-1 (no CB's) formation. Blues play in a 4-2-1 formation (no S, no W)
Work in blocks of 5 x 4 mins with 2 min break
How
Coach the Reds to create and finish in the Final third. They must use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition, FB to over/underlap, create overloads wide and through the middle. Manage the Blues to protect the middle, force play wide, defend the box, if the win possession they must get the ball to the half way line.
Red GK usually always starts by playing the ball into the CM who try to use an overload in the middle or play the ball wide and use the FB to create overloads and under/overlap. The Reds try to attack the goal by taking risks playing clever, quick, forward through passes and make movements off the ball. The Blues when in possession try to score in the goal within a time limit so that the Reds get maximum time in possession.
Team can 'Score' by
The Reds by scoring goals in the large goal. Blues by intercepting play and dribbling to the half way line.
Conditions, Challenges & Targets

ExplanationRed server always starts by playing the ball into the middle zone where they have a 4 v 3 overload. The Reds try to attack the goal by taking risks playing clever passes through, using the overloads available in the middle and in the wide zones. They must make movements off the ball, the wide players must over/underlap. The Blues when in possession try to dribble to the half way line.

The Reds by scoring goals in the large goal. Blues by intercepting play and dribbling to the half way line
Conditions, Challenges & Targets
Start the practice with 3 Blues in the middle zone to give the Reds overloads so making it easier to enter the box for scoring opportunities. Only allow 1 Blue into the wide areas but allow the Red FB's to enter to create overloads for more crossing opportunities. The Reds must finish with one touch.
