Focus for game
Focus for this week is to have 5 attacking players in the final third, occupying 4 to 5 out of 5 channels when we enter the attacking third.
the 4, 5 and 6 still form their triangle to give us defensive coverage. If we get stuck on one side of the field our 6 is our pivot point where we can switch the point of attack to the opposite side of the field, in this diagram inviting the 2 to move forward whilst the 3 drops back in to be ready to repeat the pattern on the other side.
Although these are starting positions for everyone they are not set in stone, for example the 11 may stay wide if they draw a defender out with them allowing the 3 to underlap instead into the interior channel instead of overlapping around in the wide channel. Another scenario may be that the 9 moves across to the interior channel allowing the 10 to run into the central channel that they have vacated.
This is an evolution of the game I have wanted to add into our training sessions the last couple of weeks but sadly we have been rained off. Considering the ability level of the opponent we have faced for the majority of this season it should be within the girls capabilities to experiment with this approach during the game.
