RDS session (Developmental) Moves (Pressure from front; Scissor, scissor cannon) (RDS PACE cover)
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
Field is 25x20. One line of players with bibs on, one without as shown. Two 2 yard gates on either side of area as shown. Balls in pile with coach.
Instructions:
Players make eye contact and game is live on attacker's first movement. Defender steps forward to try to tag attacker before they are able to run through either gate for a point. Attackers try to get through either gate without being tagged for a point, or the blue end gate without being tagged for 3 points. Players switch sides after going.
Coaching Points:
- Attacking with speed, slow down as get closer to defender to fake them out
- Use of body to fake defender (dropping shoulder, knees bent, plant foot and explode)
- Change of direction = change of pace to not get tagged
- Eyes up to know where defender is
- Attack defender's front foot (Where is their backside?)
- How can you unbalance defender to score three points?
Progressions:
None
Varibles:
- Move cone gates closer or further from the defensive line to allow attacker's to have success and challenge defenders.
- Change cue to verbal (defender yells go)
- Change cue to visual (coach holds up hand) (Regression)

Organization:
As above. Field 25x20. Four two yard gates of blue cones in each corner (next activity). Double cones in middle with a cone between these cones and each endline as shown. Players in lines, one at each endline in the center and two lines facing the endlines on the double cones. All players with a ball.
Instructions:
Players dribble at the cone and preform a scissor move (single) at the cone and reutrn to opposite line. Practice going both ways with both feet. After players show proficency with the scissor move, add in the scissor cannon move (option 2). Practice scissor cannon move with both feet in both directions.
Coaching Points:
Scissor move (Option 1):
- Little touches with pinky toe as approaching target
- Bring foot around front of ball inside to outside (of your body)
- Drop shoulder to sell scissor
- Plant with foot going around the ball
- Take ball away with big outside touch to beat defender
- Use of body to create movement in defender
Scissor Cannon (Option 2):
- Use normal scissor move as above
- Instead of taking ball away with outside of opposite foot, hop with opposite foot and use the inside to continue the same way as the scissor move
Progressions:
P1: If group is showing good timing with the moves, remove the middle cone and have them time the moves to the other player instead. Focus on qaulity and quickness of move and end product.

Organization:
As shown. Field is 25x20. Four two yard gates of blue cones in each corners. Two lines of players in center of the area as shown. Half in bibs.
Instructions:
Players make eye contact and the game is live on the attacker's first touch. The attacker tries to dribble through either blue gate on the opposite side for a point or stop the ball on the end line between the gates for two points. If the attacker uses a Scissor or Scissor Cannon move to beat the defender, they get a extra point. The defender scores the same way after winning the ball back, but at the attacking end. Play two 3 minute rounds, with each team attacking and defending for half. Team with the most points wins. Players must score in 20 seconds or less.
Coaching Points:
- Attacking with speed, slowing as approaching defender
- Using body and ball movement to unbalance defender
- Correct execution of scissor and scissor cannon
- Three E's of move
- Timing and taking risks to score
- Use of body after move is executed to protect ball
- Shape to create 1v1 situations (spread out)
- Penetration principle of play
Progressions:
P1: Attackers have additional line (on the side), attackers must run between the gates on their side and get a pass to start the game
P2: Add pugg net in the middle of the gates. Scoring in the Pugg net is worth 3 points everytime, regardless if moves were preformed or not, dribbling through the gates is still worth 1 point.
P3: Add line of confrontation line. If attacker (or defender after winning the ball back) can dribble across this line, another player from their team can join the attack to support the player to score.

Progressions:
None
Varibles:
- If 9 players, play 3v3v3 tourny. Two minute games or first goal to rotate teams. Winner stays on, challenger gets the ball
- Teams sitting out can either rest, or coach can employ them as nuetral players along touchlines or endlines (bumper players)
- If 12 or more, put into 4 teams of 3 and have a tourny similar to above (based on space for play 4v4)
