Positional Exercise (10 mins)

Red

- score in one of the 2 goals as quickly as possible

Blue

- win the ball and get a player on the ball in the end zone or score in the goal as quickly as possible

Team task

- today is all about preventing balls in behind the defence

Player tasks

- Pressure whenever possible to prevent opposition have time/space on the ball

- If we can't press and opposition player is on the ball facing forward with time and space, kill the space in behind to prevent them playing over.

Game training 1 (15 mins)

Blue

- Win the ball and quickly play to neutral players

- in 1 pass = 10 points

- in 2 passes = 5 points

- in 3 or more = 1 point

Red

- Score in the big goal

- in 3 passes or less or play through the front of the box = 10 points

- in 4 passes = 5 points

- in 5 or more = 1 point

Green

- play for team in possession

Rules

- midfielders have to stay in the box until ball has been played through or over (2 from each team can go and 1 from each team must stay

- all other football rules apply (except no corners or throw-ins)

SOAUSS - checklist

Team Task

- today is all about recognising cues when the opposition might play long and killing the space in behind.

Player Tasks

- midfield 3 to screen ball into ST

- nearest midfielder to pressure midfielder on the ball

- If player on the ball facing forward and a threat to the back line, kill the space in behind

- If pressure on the ball further up the field, stay relatively tight

- GK to move in relation with the ball

Game training 2 (25 mins)

Blue (NFC):

- win the ball

- get player on ball in the end zone as quickly as possible

Red

- Score in the big goal

- win the ball (don't let them score!)

Team task

- today is all about dealing with the long ball from deep when we lose possession

Player tasks

- Press nearest opponent as soon as we lose possession or prevent opposition switching out

- If you can't press, get in a position to prevent them playing forward

- If ball is played over the top of you, play in a 50/50 position between their def and mid.

- Press nearest opponent as soon as we lose possession or prevent opposition switching out

- If you can't press, drop goal side of the deepest lying midfielder

- Anticipate any 2nd balls

- Keep distance between Def & Mid small

- If there is a threat (attacking player) and player on the ball facing forward, kill the space in behind.

- Stay close to prevent ball through you.

- Look for furthest forward pass whenever we win possession. If not, build up.

- Pressure nearest wide players on the ball side. Opposite FB tuck in.

- If the ball is central, tuck in and don't let the opposition play through you.

- Look to receive as high as possible and support WF in possession

Training game (20 mins)

Both teams play a 8v8 in a 1-3-3-1 formation.

Any ball played through or over from a different 3rd is worth 3 goals.

All other goals worth 1.

Normal football rules apply except no corners - GK of team who won the corner to start.
