Description

Goal is to provide some quality agility training with appropriate rest to give a good mix of skill-based fitness and some anaerobic overload. The Tic-Tac-Toe Sprint is also meant to be a fun, but challenging activity for the players.

Agility Course 1 (10 mins)

Agility Course #1

Setup: Three sets of cones are laid out with two yards between them, 3 yards between each row. The middle row should be in line with the agility sticks. The agility sticks are staggered with 1 yard between each (have a minimum of 4 and maximum of 8). Place two cones in line with the agility sticks 5 yards away, with 2 yards between each. Set up an agility ladder 5 yards to the side and centered with the agility sticks. Place a start line (start cones) about 2 yards from the ladder.

Players form two squads of three begin at the ladders (green start line) and progress through the course. After the player ahead clears the ladders, the next player starts :

A) Ladders - one time through with a lateral shuffle;

B) Cones - Lateral side-to-side, foot plant, pause and back the other direction; do the same for the 2nd and 3rd sets of cones; then advance to the

C) Agility Sticks - slalom from right to left through the sticks and then forward to the

D) Cones - perform a figure 8 run through both cones, facing the direction you are running the whole time.

Return to the start and hold for restart.

Repeat 5 times, starting the first group member every minute. All 6 continue through the circuit and stop at the green line until the next minutes starts the cycle again. The course is duplicated based on the number of players at practice. Try to have between 5-7 players per course.

Agility Course 2 (10 mins)

Agility Course #2

Same setup as Agility Course #1 but the ladder is removed and four cones are added 5 yards to the side of the agility sticks. Cones #1 and #3 are 5 yards to the right of the agility sticks #1 and #3; cones #2 and #4 are 5 yards to the left of the agility sticks #2 and #4.

Players from two squads of three begin at the left coral (red start line) and progress through the course. After the player ahead begins the approach to the third lateral cone, the next player starts :

A) Agility Sticks - player approaches the first stick from the left and, while facing forward, completes one full circle around the stick before turning and running for the right lateral cone. The player then repeats the same movement, this time approaching the second stick from the right and completing one full circle around the stick before turning and sprinting for the left lateral cone. The player continues through the full set of sticks.

B) Sprint - once the player has finished all the agility sticks and lateral cones, s/he sprints to the second cone ahead before easing and turning into line at the green re-start line.

Repeat the course, finishing at the original starting coral. When restarting from the red start line, players enter the agility sticks from the right, again, and sprints right, again, alternating through the sticks. Run through the course 5 times total through the agility sticks (green-to-red is one repetition, red to green would be the second, and so on). Start the first group member every minute. All 6 continue through the circuit and stop at the green or red line until the next minute restarts the group. As with the Agility Course #1 activity, try to have between 5-7 players per course.

Tic-Tac-Toe Sprint (10 mins)

Tic Tac Toe Sprints

Players sprint back and forth between the Tic-Tac-Toe grid trying to place their team’s cones placed three in a row. Each team has three cones, placed next to the grid to start. One at a time, the players work to get the winning formation. If three players have gone without a winning three in a row, then the next team player picks up one of his team's cones in the grid and replaces it to try and get the three in a row.

The players start in the coral behind the green start line. One player is permitted outside of the coral at a time. Players sprint from the start line to the tic-tac-toe grid 25 yards away. Once the cone is placed, the player turns back and sprints back, dashing side-to-side through the agility sticks and then tags his next teammate waiting in the coral.

Players play best two-of three. The winning team plays the winning team from another tic-tac-toe grid for best tow-of-three.
