Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Matthias Heilbronn - Third man passing exercise

Third man pass

This is a short- short - long passing exercise playing to a third player and swicthing the play. It can be played with all players staying on their position (6 players) and rotating the players after a while so they get to play all three positions (A, B & C/D, E, F), or played with more players, each player moiving up one position after they finished their pass(es).

- Player A playes a quick combination with player B, and then plays a long pass to player C (breaking lines).

- Player B turns around after passing the first pass back to A and opens up to receive another pass from C. 

- Player B then plays the next pass across to player D.

- Player D starts the same combination play on the other side with players E & F.

- Players rotate from A - B - C - D - E - F.

- Player F goes to the back of the line at position A

Variations: 

- Play into both directions

- Play with two balls, starting at the same time on A and D

Tips:

Between receiving the passes from A and C (D & F), the center player should move out of the way and open up the body to be able to play the ball across.

If possible, all passes should be played one touch.

Competition:

- Set up twice and count every time the ball is played to from player E to A.
