Football/Soccer Session (Beginner): Alien Invasion

Organization: Player area should be based on age and size of the kids.

Create a box around the goal, approximately 10 X 20. Place the soccer balls about 10-15 yards away from the box. 

Instructions: Explain to the players that there are aliens that are trying to land their spaceships (soccer ball) on earth (goal). There will be a group of players that will be astronauts (goalies) and they must try and stop the spaceships from landing on earth, using their hands and/or feet. Another group of players will be Aliens, they must grab a soccer ball from the pile and dribble as close to the box as they can before attempting a shot on goal. 

The astronauts must stay inside their box (playing area) and the aliens cannot enter the box. 

Encourage the astronauts to use their hands when making a save, and rolling it off to the sides out of the box; not back to the aliens. 

Also, encourage them to come out from the goal and cover the space in the box. Players tend to crowd right on the goal line during this game. 

Encourage Aliens to use their laces when shooting on goal, and getting as close as they can before taking a shot. 

Play for 2-3 minutes before switching groups. Each group will get a turn as an astronaut and an alien. 

Progressions: 1) Aliens can only shoot with right or left foot.
