Warm-up/SAQ (10 mins)

Organization: Large grid, two gates wide with one in the center a bit forward from the green gates.

Instructions:

* Players start with coaches command "GO" they both run up and through the green gate going from the outside in towards the yellow gate.

* first player through the yellow gate is the attacker and is the player coach passes to. They then must hold up the ball and try to score in either green gate.

* Switch lines every time.

Coaching Points:

* Be aware of your body and don't come crashing into another player because you did not see you were beaten.

* If you are not first to the ball can you quickly put them under preassure and keep the attackers back to goal.

* If you allow them space to turn towards you, expect them to try to unbalance you, so stay low, on your toes and try to push them onto their weaker foot to force a mistake.

Progressions:

* Pass it to different sides forcing different scenairos for attackers

* Give them a time limit to score

*Regression: Make space wider

MAIN PROGRESSION: Two players go at once, first player still is trying to win the ball but now they must get it to their teammate (Teammate goes and stands between BLUE cones (can move anywhere between them.

5 v 3 Van Gaal Drill (20 mins)

Organization:

- large 15 x 15 grid with four mobile players on the outside and one player on the inside against three defenders.

- The four goals on the outside are soley for the defenders

Instructions:

- Yellow player in the middle can only play a 1-2 touch pass to keep the move going.

- Players on the outside must combine the most passes in 1 minute (this time frame is flexible) and then switch players on the outside with the ones on the inside.

- Defending team, if they win the ball, try to score on the four goals placed outside the grid.

Coaching Points:

- As the ball moves around, how can your movement off the ball open up passing lanes to you or other teammates?

- The middle player, can he also move to create passing lanes? Can he quickly shift defenders with fast accurate passes between lines?

- Set it as if you are having your #10 or 8 trying to link our defenders with our wide players or striker.

- Give your teammate a quality pass.

Conditioned Game: 4v4 (20 mins)

Organization:

Grid seperated into three sections (Defensive thrid, Midfield third, Attacking third)

Instructions:

- Players play 5 v 5

- If you pass into the next channel you can go forward to help players in that next chennel.

Coaching Points:

- Recognizing space to run into to support

- Visual cues from teammates if you do need to go forward to support or need to stay back as an option to simply keep it.

- Strength on the ball with pressure.
