Warm Up (10 mins)

Warm Up

  • 10x10 area with a 4v2 
  • 4 players on the outside represent a #1 #5 #6 and #4 (1-2-1 formation v 2)
  • 2 players on the smaller  coned square are protecting their gates from all 4 sides.
  • #1 #5 #6 #4 are looking to break the oppositions lines playing through the gates. these players are also allowed to play around the larger square.
  • if a line is broken (red team) then 2 points will be awarded, if an interception is made then one point is awarded to the defending team.
  • first team to 7 points win.

Learning Objectives

Technical Technical
Weight of pass, open body shape on receiving the ball, locking of foot and ankle.
Technical Tactical
Holding onto the ball to allow opposition to press and then look to play the ball over into the attacking third. Look to split the opposition with a ball being played through oppositions units. Play the ball around the opposition and break through the thirds.
Technical Physical
Movement and support, holding opposition off the ball. Balance and agility on and off the ball.
Technical Psychological
Scanning and spatial awareness, decision making on and off the ball,
Technical Social
Communication between the horizonal and vertical

Breaking Lines through, around and over the thirds in central areas (25 mins)

SPECIFIC PRACTICE - Breaking Lines (in possession)

Area Size; Player Numbers; Organisation

Playing area as shown, centre circle to byline with funneling line (white). Big goal at yellow team end, two mini goals at red team end as shown. 

7v7 outfield, 

RED team (in possession) are coached . Players set up in following formation  2-3-1 , #5, #6, #4, #8, #10 and #9.

Yellow team (out of possession) are managed out of possession. Player are set up in following formation GK- 2-3-1. #1, #5, #6, #4, #8, #10 and #9

The aim is for the red team to find ways to play through and around the yellow team to create goal-scoring opportunities 

Picture 1  - Play Around (10mins)

  • Double goals will be awarded for to the yellows scoring into the mini goals.
  • Reds are to play around the opposition. #5 or #6 start with the ball, as #9 begins to press can CB's look to play out the other side and look to play around into #8 or #10

Picture 2  - Play Through (10mins)

  • double goals are awarded for scoring in the mini goals.
  • Reds are to play through the opposition when it's on to do so. #5 or #6 start with the ball, as #9 begins to press can CB's look to play through into #4, #8 or #10 (dependent on attacking principles of play- movement and creativity). #9 looks to deceive opposition CB's to create a goal-scoring opportunity
  • If Yellows gain possession they can triple their goal tally by scoring in under 8 seconds,
  • If red team play through/around the thirds without the opposition making contact with the ball they also gain triple goals.

Progression

  • Encourage reds to use minimal amount of touches around or through the thirds.

SSG (20 mins)

BREAKING LINES - IN POSSESSION - SSG 

Area Size; Player Numbers; Organisation 

  • Goal is placed for the Red team to defend. Pitch remains the same (remove funnel when necessary)
  • Both teams are set out the same.

Red team are coached in possession.

Yellow team are managed out of possession (Assistant coach if available)

The aim is for the RED team to find ways to play through, around or over   Yellow team and score.

All goals scored by Yellow count double TIME LIMIT of 8 SECONDS

Time

1 Minute explaining the small sided game.

Adding picture 3 (1 Minute)

Picture 3- Over (Instant Penetration)

Offsides will be in play.

Reds are encouraged to play a long, penetrating pass when it's on.

#1 #5 or #6 to play a direct ball to #9 (who is pinning back the CB to create space around and in front of him) who will have a goal-scoring opportunity.
