4 v 4 matches
Organisation:
30 x 20 m pitch area with mini goal at each end, and cones or similar to split pitch distance at halfway.
8 players (4 v 4).
Description:
Normal game of 4 v 4 played for 10 minutes to observe players. (10 minutes)
Aims and progressions:
The overall aim is for players to learn how to pass, control, move and communicate in order to retain possession of the ball in all areas of the pitch.
Progression 1: (10 minutes)
Posession in your own half:
Players keep possession of the ball in their own half of the pitch, which means they cannot score. If the opposition win the ball back, they must pass it to a player in their half of the pitch, and also then try to retain possession in their own half.
Award points for a number of passes made by each team to make it competitive
Progression 2: (10 minutes)
Revert to normal game, where players are allowed to score, but only after at least 2 passes are made by a team.
Progression 3: (10 minutes)
Similar to progression 1, but now the players must try to retain possesion in the oppositions half of the pitch and are not allowed to score.
If the opposition team win the ball, they must get it into their opponents half of the pitch and do the same.
Make it competitive, by seeing how many passes each team can make
Progression 4: (10 minutes)
Normal game, looking at identifying if the learning has taken place
Learning points:
These SSG's teach the players to learn how to keep the ball in all areas of the pitch.
Whilst keeping possession in their own half, the defending team learn to be able to pass the ball out of defence and not panic, whilst the attacking team learn how to press high up the pitch.
Whilst keeping possession inthe oppositions half of the pitch, players learn how to keep the ball and create space until a goalscoring opportunity present itslef and break down solid defences, similar hot Barcelona play.
