What: The practice is about defending as a midfield 3 v 3 in the central area, where we are trying to stop the ball being transferred from one target player to the other through and around us.The practice begins when a target player plays the ball to the red player, the blues can either apply pressre on the ball keeping their shape or press to win it and man mark while trying to stop the reds to play through or around them.
The practice is a 3 v 3 in the central midfield area and two target players, supporting the reds on a constant movement of the ball.
If the blues win possession of the ball, they can either play back to the server and score a point or passing it into the goals (representing forward wide players) and score 3 points within 5 seconds. The reds get a point for every successful pass made from one target to another and they are allowed 3 seconds on the ball.
Play always begins from the targets playing the ball to the red players.
This an opportunity for the midfielders to work on shape and positioning, trying to stop oppositions playing through us in a 4:3:3 or a 4:3:1.
Progression: Bring in another red player, maybe a winger either on the left or right to make it difficult for the blue midfielders and see how they react.
