Warm up -Welsh ways (15 mins)

Description

Simon says command exercise approach where the players have a ball each and must dribble around within the set area whilst they improve and develop technques on how they can manipulate the ball with various parts of the foot whilst maintaining awareness of space avoiding other players within the area. The warm up introduction phase all players are put together in one group then further on the session they are slip into smaller groups.

Organisation

Area size : As again its under the interpretation off the coaches the previous exercises should provide an idea and scale that will work ideally with the group.

1 on 1's Beating the man (20 mins)

Description

Dribbling exercise to test the players creativity and dribbling ability where the player who acts as a defender plays the ball into the attacker where once the player has made his first touch the defender can come into play creating a stressor for the attacker where the must beat the man and look to dribble the ball around the man and into one of the two goals they have as an option.

Progression

Like most exercises the adjustment of area size can influence the difficulty of the exercise , with the addition of moving the targets closer or further away. The competive nature of the drill can be further exploited later on during the drill to maintain engagement go the group alongside setting individual tasks such as setting a set target to aim for and applying a set time for them so complete the skill.

Skill into SSG (25 mins)

Description

Furthering on from the 1vs1 exercise relating it to more of game like scenario where the players are labelled as numbers 1 to X and once their number is called its a race to the ball and a 1vs1 with a timed element to create intensity. Further developing this into a game like exercise where multiple numbers can be called out creating either a over load or a balanced number where the option to pass is added where this opens up into decision making and working out when its best to make the pass and look to beat the man.

SSG (30 mins)

SSG

SSG where the corners are tapered off to encourage movement into the central areas and prevent the ball getting caught up in wide areas, the SSG can be used with 3 teams with one team given a break at each game , the reduced number of players will allow for more space on the pitch and present more opportunities for 1vs1 situation to present themselves.

Progressions

The introduction of a magic man can be used to further simplify and help with developing decision making creating more opportunities to pass and play the ball creating that thought process to be considered and broken down and explained to the players.
