u12 session - Playing out from the back (40 mins)
Organisation - Playing out of the back. Only coaching the Blues. Start point if needed is red striker clipping a shot into the blues keeper ( Transition ).
Big picture -"When our keeper has the ball, I want to see this picture" (show the boys positions)
1 - GK place the ball in the middle of the box. Keeping the passing options distance equal & giving you more options to play out.
2 - Maintain your shape - trust the keeper to be the player in the middle & not lose possession of the ball.
3 - Diamond wide players - start high and wide but drop and support if the ball gets played into the 2 centre backs. ( This will move the opposition midfield unit about and make them shift as the ball is switched, giving us more potential for penatrive passes )
4 - Playmaker & Magicman - try to get on the ball in pockets of space which are left by the opposition. First thought to play forwards!
Positioning the ball in the centre
- Keepers pass selection hard to read
- More passing options
- Less ball travel time for passing options either side of the box
Maintain Shape
- Centre backs to the side of the box
- The keeper is a passing option ( Its impossible to play without him )
- Option on edge of the box ( Playmaker ) & further forward on different line.
Use the Overload
- The overload will create time and space on the ball eventually
- Recognise opportunities to dribble out and commit players
- Play out if the commit to the press
- Bypass to space and options further forward if they balance the overload.
Challenges
GK - Come under the ball to create a passing option for defenders.
Ind - Be calm & relaxed in posession & maintain your shape out of possession
Unit - Centre backs try to recognise when to dribble out and commit players & create time/space for teammates.
Team - Use the overload to retain the ball and play forwards, the overload will create time/space eventually.
Only play diagnol passes!
