This is session that allows the players to develop their heading technic, first part is technical and then leads to a skill and then into and end to end game.

heading technical (15 mins)

Key Factors

  • set up  pitch 30 x40 
  • 2 mini goals to left and right and larger goals top and bottom (wider sides)
  • players in the middle start in the 4 cones, they then run to a station and head ball into goals. ( players serving from the corner header must be in larger goals , from the sides one of the mini goals)
  • swap players every 2 minutes so everyone gets a turn of heading
  • this will allow players to work on the mechanic's of heading the ball,( EYES OPEN, HEAD BALL USING THE FOREHEAD, USE NECK AND BACK MUSLES, ARMS OUT FOR BALANCE,  STAY ON YOUR TOES, HEAD BALL MIDDLE-BOTTOM OF THE BALL AND GO FOR HEIGHT OR DISTANCE
  • Coach from outside of the pitch and step in if needed or have 1-2-1 when player has swapped out

  • set up 20 white cones for the 30 x 40 area 
  • 10 red cones for stations and middle box
  • 2 sets of bibs
  • 14 balls 
  • 18 players plus 2 keepers

heading end game (15 mins)

Key Factors

  • 4 corner zones this is for players to go in unopposed to cross the ball using hands or feet
  • add scoring system 1 for any goals scored, 2 for header scored from throwing 3 for header scored from a cross from foot
  • remove restrictions and play game as normal but still 3 points for a headed goal
  • coach from side
