Rondos

Organisation

* 4v2 directional Rondo.

Progression

The team of four, or two of theteams of two, work together on the outside of the grid and the team of two, thedefenders, work on the inside

.

The team of four start with the ball and mustkeep it away from the defenders inside the grid.

The outside team scores a goal by passingbetween the two defenders.

The defenders must work together to keep thegap between them to a minimum and close the ball down so they can intercept thepasses.

Equipment

* 4 x cones, 2 x bibs, supply of footballs.

Coaching Points

* Accuracy, weight and disguise of pass.

* Type of pass - 1st/2nd/3rd line pass.

* Angles/body position to receive.

* Patient but purposeful possession.

Multi-Directional Practise

Organisation

* Setup like the diagram above.

* To start, both teams are locked into their zones.

* Team in possession look to transfer play from one zone to the other (breaking the opposition line).

* Team out of possession look to screen penetrative passes.

* Roles of each team swap when possession is won/lost.

* Play for 4 x sets of 4 minutes with 1 minute intervals. 1st set = free play, 2nd-4th set = progressions (below).

Progressions

* 1 - Team out of possession can send 1 x player at a time to press the opposition.

* 2 - Team in possession can send players to disrupt opposition line (i.e wall passes/to open up passing lines). And players are now able to dribble zone to zone (i.e challenge for a winger).

* 3 - If team in possession can play from 2 to 1 and back to 2 (see diagram) they're able to turn and attack (creating a 4v4 scenario) the big goal.

Equipment

* 16 x cones,  2 x big goals (or 4 x pop up goals depending on GK availability), supply of footballs, 2 x sets of different colour bibs, whistle, stopwatch.

Coaching Points

* Patient but purposeful possession.

* Can we stretch the opposition horizontally/laterally to create opportunities to penetrate.

* If we can't play through, keep moving the ball quickly/switch the point of attack to disorganise opposition and create gaps to play through/or around.

* Individual fly-by coaching/challenges.

* Coaches to secretly select 1 x player from each team to concentrate on during the match.

Equipment

* 18 x cones, 2 x sets of different colour bibs, supply of footballs, 2 x large goals, visual aid, whistle, stopwatch.
