Warm up (5 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Have children run around a designated area of the court, i will call for them to stop and carry out a shadow practice of a set shot one done i will have them continue to run around the area

Coaching Points

when the players are running i will make sure they are keeping there heads up so they dont run into each other and when practicing that their knees are bent and arms are fully extrened

Progressions / Adaptations

add a jump shot which is the same as a set shot just with a extra dynamic movemnt

shooting basics (15 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Have two lines organised under a basket, the first two people of the left line have a basketball, person at the front of the line will pass the baskteball to the person at the front of the right line, once they pass the ball they will join the end of the right line, the person who received the pass will take a shot at the basket and then get their own rebound they will then pass the ball to a player in the left line and then join the end of the left line

Coaching Points

To teach the correct way to shoot i used the accronym BEEF. Which stands for B= balance, this means keeping feet shoulder width apart for support. E= elbows, when shooting the shotting hand is in an L shaped position with elbows pointing to the ground. E= eyes, meaning the player should be looking at the basket. F= follow through, meaning they should fully extend their arm and flick their wrist at the end of the shot.

Progressions / Adaptations

lower basket if i find they are struggling

2 ball shooting drill (20 mins)

Organizational / Instructions

Divide class into groups of 3. Set cones out randomly infront of each basket at various distances. The first person from each team has the ball while the others stan back behind the cones. The first person picks a cone to stand at an take a shot, if they make it they collect the ball and pick up the cone they stodd at and take it back to their team as a point and give the ball to th next person. Keep playing util all cones have been picked up and whichever team as most cones wins.

Coaching Points

If shooting from further away, tell pupils to bend legs and use them to give their shot more power

If too hard move cones clser to the basket

Conditioned Game

Organizational / Instructions

Killer- have a line of children stand beind the basket the child at the frount has a basketball and has to take a shot if he gets in in he walks to the end of the line but if he misses he must sprint to the cone placed, touch it and then sprint back to the line, if somoone gets a basket while they are doing this they are out

Coaching Points

make sure they are using the correct stance and fully extending arm out

Progressions / Adaptations

move the poll closer or further away depanding on how easy or hard they are finding it
