Set-Up
On Half field put two center goals at half way as shown.
Organization
Play 7 (Black) vs 5 (white) with gk as shown. Team in black plays a
2-3-1 formation and work towards the two counter side goals. The
5 whites work to stop them from scoring and if they win it can
attack the full sized goal.

area, add in neutral players.

Instructions:
Played on ½ field. Attacking team building from the back with 10 players vs 9 Defender.
Teams should be shaped up in system relative to your chosen formation. E.g. 1-4-3-2 vs 3-3-3. Defending team plays with high press.
Job is to successfully build a passage of play that crosses the half-way line with a dribble. If defenders win they go to goal.
Progressions:
Vary the defending team formation. 2 strikers with main press coming when the ball goes into midfield.
Press includes the goalkeeper who cannot use hands.
2 Touch from everyone.
Attacking Coaching Points:
Prior to receiving the ball check shoulder for picture and pressure.
Be in position to receive the ball i.e. CBs penalty box wide, OBs wider and higher, CMs rotating to show for the ball.
Players must be dynamic movement in coming to receive the ball and vacating space when they don’t get it.
Protect the ball on reception and move it quickly, do not take more touches than necessary.
Look to break lines with passes / dribbles when possible.
Defending Coaching Points:
Be compact as a team, do not let the passes go between lines.
Communicate who does the initial press and then the remainder of the team moves accordingly.
Keep the spaces relative to one another as the whole team press.
Once the team squeezes the opposition to their chosen side, keep them there by narrowing the gaps and pressing the ball to avoid them playing a longer pass.
When chance presents to win the ball, win in!

Instructions:
7v7 with 1 free player on each side of the 7’s field. 7s field split into 3 zones, with midfield area slightly bigger than the other two.
System of play for both teams is 1-2-3-1. Players free to move between zones.
Purpose of the game is assist the defending team in recognising triggers to press the opposition. ‘Negative Actions’ can be many things however in this example the game focuses on applying a press when the ball is passed backwards.
Progressions:
Wide free players can dribble in the field.
Wide players play 1 touch
Take wide players away and add additional midfielder each (leave the ‘1st zone’ with an overload for the attacking team to promote build up).
Defending Coaching Points:
Striker isolates a defender on the ball by moving into the passing lane between defenders. If they can also stop the ball going back to the gk then that is helpful too. Avoid ‘over-committing’ to the press at this point as we want to avoid a ‘bounce pass’ from CB to #6 and out the other side.
As the ball moves to either CB, the defending #6 quickly moves up the field to be within striking distance of a tackle to her/his opposite #6 should they receive the ball. At the same time they must protect a split pass to the striker. Wide players should also be compact but within striking distance to tackle opponents
If the attacking #6 plays back to either CB then the wide defender on the same side as the ball rapidly advances to press the receiving CB being careful to block a pass around her/him to the player they have just left. Angle run, be quick to press and receive communication from deeper #6 would help here.
Defending #6 assists the press by protecting the pass to opposition #6 and deeper defender comes higher up the field to add to the numbers up too.
Win the ball when the opportunity presents
Attacking Coaching Points:
When the defending team recovers the ball high up the field they should look to get the ball to a central striker to either turn and shoot or hold the ball up for supporting runs from wide players
If the team recover the ball from a deeper position after being breached then retaining possession and getting team into a balanced position is important.
