Core Skill:1v1
Specific Aspect :Beating a defender.
Key Principal: Individual Skill
Player Tasks:
-When you are running toward a defender run directly at them so they don’t know which side of them you will go.
-Time the feint or dummy so that its not too early and not too late.
-Use COD and COP.
-If the defender is shaping you towards the sideline use
-COD to turn defender around.
-Release the ball quickly once you have the defender beaten or head towards space/goals
Organisation:
-Grid size 12m x 15m
- 8 x Red and 4 x Blue (10-12 players max)

-BLUE recieves the ball and draws the defender into a 1v1.
-Attacker to beat the defender either side, feint, COP or COD and stops the ball over the end line.
-Once the play stops BLUE retreats and play starts again from the RED end.
-If the defender wins the challenge they can score by taking the ball over the opposite line.
-Change the attackers regularly. 3-5mins.
HIDDEN LEARNING: Defender to face the attacking player towards the sideline. Try not to stop "square" on. Aviod the Nut meg position.
-Close the gap between attacker and defender as quick as possible.
-Keep on your toes so you can pivot left or right quickly.
Step up/Down:
-Reduce the grid size, make it tighter or increase to create success for the attackers.
Progression A:

Organization:
- Full pitch 60m x 45m
-8v8 (2 x GK)
-7 spare players
Explanation:
-Play starts with RED GK playing out from the back.
-Alternatively play can start from a throw-in.
Rules:
-1v1 can only take place in the middle or front 3rd.
-Can we play the #9 as quick as possible?
Coaching Cues:
-Playing out from the back, can we use the passing pattern from the start of the session.
-That was a good contest 1v1, but can we look to release the ball after beating the defender?
-Change of speed and change of direction
-Keeping the ball out of tackling range of the opponent i.e. 1 big step from their feet (u/10 to u/14)
-Take the opponent one way to create space and suddenly accelerate back into the space you created
-Keep your body between the ball and player (carry the ball on the foot furthest from the opponent)
-There are no offsides in small sided games.
