Playing out from the back passing patterns (20 mins)

Building / Playing out from the back Passing patterns in a 3-5-2

* The build up play will always start with the GK either from a goal kick or with the ball in the GK's hands / on the floor.

* If the GK wants to play it quickly before the patterns are set this shouldnt be a pattern but a play as you see scenario.

* Set up as above for all the patterns we will work on - players must move into these positions when the GK has the ball in the scenario's mentioned above.

- RCB and LCB split and drop to the edge of the penalty area

- CB splits the pitch in half and stay central outside the penalty area.

- WB's to push high and wide

- 2 CM's split to make a triangle with the CB creating angles to receive a pass

- ACM to start central just inside own half and must always be at an angle from the CM's to receive a forward pass on the move. Forming a central diamond.

* Players must have a maximum 3 touches

* Passing pattern to finish with a pass played into one of the target goals (representing a quality final through ball to the CF's)

* Patterns to be walked though first before being done at match tempo / speed

* Maximum 4 passes and into target goal

* Generally used with slow ball from the GK or from goal kicks where team gets set for the patterns.

* If a quick pass is made by the GK this is a positive reaction therefore not a set pattern but should be encouraged if a sensible pass is on.

* Also play what you see.

* Adapt to different opposition systems and scenario's. e.g 4-3-3 high press, 4-5-1, 4-4-2 and use patterns to play through.

Pattern 1 - GK - R/LCB - CM - Target Goal (CF)

Pattern 2 - GK - L/RCB - L/RWB - ACM - Target Goal

Pattern 3 - GK - R/LBC - CM - ACM - Target Goal

Pattern 4 - GK - CM - ACM - Target Goal

Pattern 5 - GK - LWB / RWB - Target Goal - This pattern is to be used if playing against a team who are pressing high up the pitch

Pattern 6 - GK - LWB / RWB - ACM - Target Goal

Pattern 7 - GK - CB - CM - L/RWB - Target Goal

Pattern 8 - GK - Target Goal - This to set up defensively staying compact with the GK kicking long

* Opposition can be added to create game realism - 6 opposition players playing a 3-3 or a 4-2 or a 5-1 and a GK.
