Defensive attitude on the field to form a better group in the defense line.
This session is about closing opponents, winning the ball back in a 1v1 situation.

Organization:
1. 20 x 20 yard area set up as shown
2. 2 players (4 Defenders, 8 Attackers) set up as shown
3. 8 balls 1 ball per attacker) (A dditional around the outside)
Instructions:
1. Each attacking player attempts to keep possession of their ball inside the area for as long as possible
2. The defending players attempt to win the attacking players balls and pass them outside the area
3. If the attacker’s ball is knocked out they must dribble through two gates to re-enter the game
4. The idea is to get all attacking players out of the game as quickly as possible
5. Rotate defending players over a set time period, record any time a defending team knocks all attackers’ balls out of the area. Use this to motivate other groups and keep a leader board
Coaching Points:
1. Correct tackling technique (block or poke tackle)
2. Ankle locked
3. Body weight forward to gain possession
Progressions:
1. P – Reduce the number of defenders
2. P – Allow players who have their ball kicked out to work with other attackers to help keep possession of theirs
3. R – Increase number of defending players to play 6 vs. 6
4. R – Increase the number of gates attackers must dribble through to re-enter the game

Set-up
12 x 10 grids with a ball on a cone at one end as shown.
Organization
Players work in pairs. White player plays the ball across the grid to black player and closes the space down quickly. Black player must try to dribble past the white player and try and knock the ball off the cone or dribble across end line. White player defends them and tries to win the ball and dribble across opposition end line.
Progressions
Switch roles, have players work for 90 seconds games and keep track of points. Winners move up the grid loser’s move down the grid.
Coaching Points
Close down space and try to win ball in black half, speed/angle of approach, apply pressure without stabbing, body shape side on, take advantage of poor touch/dribble by attacker, watch ball not player.

ORGANISATION:
25 x 15 yd area
5 yd central channel
2 goals at each end
INSTRUCTIONS;
2 attackers play inside area with 4 defenders outside the area
1 attacker from each side collects the ball and moves inside
Creating a 2 v 1 scenario.
Once the attack is finished a 2nd ball is collected and a new defender comes in.
Attackers look to combine, creat scoreing chances, work on decision making.
COACHING POINTS:
1. When is the right time to shoot?
2. Is your teammate in a better position than you to shoot?
3. As you collect the ball, check your shouldrs to see where oop is.
4. How far is the defender?
5. Play give and go , 1-2s
6. Recognize where is the space to shoot.
7. What to do before recieving the ball.

2v2, 3v3

Defending-Pressuring Warm up (10 mins)
ORGANISATION:
1. 10x10 yd area
2, One cone at each corner
3. Gate for attacking Team
INSTRUCTIONS;
Attackers will try to run through the gate without getting tagged in 5 sec.
Defenders tries to tag attacker befoire he can run through the gate.
Players switch sides.
COACHING POINTS:
1. 5 sec to get through the gate
2. Switch of direction
3. Body in a low center of gravity position as im defending.
4. Body feints.
VARIATIONS:
1. Introduce the soccer ball
2. NO tag, win the ball and reach other side.
