  • Player 2 Receives the ball facing the field.
  • Player 1 makes a diagonal run across the field indicating the direction of the run with either a point or call out - calling for the ball.

  • Player 2 looks to pass the ball into space, leading player 1 so they can run onto it.
  • Player 1 looks to continue his run wide and support player 2 with a good passing angle if he doesn't receive it.

  • Depending on where the defensive is positioned, player 1 will start to bend their run upfield creating a passing lane and getting their body in position to take their first touch forward towards goal.
  • Player 2 will look to pass the ball into space, leading player 1 so they can receive the ball while running onto it.

  • If the defense is positioned where the ball forward into space is not an option, Player 1 should continue his run to get wide and provide a good supporting angle in order to keep possession of the ball.
  • Player 2 then has the option of taking the ball into space towards goal or, if open, passing the ball to Player 1 who is in good supporting angle.

  • The diagnol run gives the offensive team options - dribble to goal, pass behind the defense or pass wide.
  • The diagnol run off the ball forces the defense to make quick decisions that the offensive team can take advantage of such as: 1. which player defends the ball and which player goes with the runner. 2. spreading out the defense and taking them away from their own goal or position. 3. Foricng them to look behind them while also trying to stop the ball.
