PASSING AND RECEIVING TO PLAY FORWARD (15 mins)

Area: 20x15m Time: 15mins Players: 4 in each grid

Method:

Players play 2v2 on the pitch with 1 x target player either side. 1 x defender can only defend in designated half. Attackers free to play in any half (2v1's). Attackers attempt to transfer the ball from one target player to the other through passing combinations.

Rotate players on the outside.

Coaching Points:

  • Players work opposites (one go short/one go long)
  • When the end player has the ball the attacking pair should split to make the area big and create space for movement to come and receive.

  • Movement and angle to receive
  • Encourage players to work together and gain an understanding of each others movement to create space and angles to receive the ball.

  • Patience
  • Players must be patients in possession of the ball. If the forward pass is not on then encourage players to play back and start again.
