High catch and punch technique (activation) (15 mins)

- High catch and punch technique

- Server one throws the ball up over mannequin for GK to catch

- GK then steps acros and sets for a volley

5 reps then rotate

Crossing footwork technique (15 mins)

Crossing footwork

  • Ball thrown in from side, finish by rolling or throwing ball out to server
  • 2 locations - Front & back (10 total for each player)
  • First action should be a pause and assess
  • Front - Drive forward, jump off inside foot, highest point
  • Back - Quick early steps as assessing, cross step for speed and power, jump off outside leg with chest facing ball
  • PROGRESSION - Move to punching technique (Again 10 total for each player)
  • Add player with tackle pad applying pressure - recreates situation of an uncatchable ball
  • Front - Drive up and punch (with two hands - Hands together punch straight up and out from chest)
  • Back - Same footwork and body position as catching but inside hand then comes over to punch - Don't swing

Crossing game scenario (15 mins)

Game situation:

Cross 1 comes in for GK to catch

GK then rolls ball out to server on edge of the box

Cross 2 comes in for a punch

Immediately followed by touch and shot from server with ball.
