Football/Soccer Session (Beginner): 1v1 to Goal Variation

Forward moves (15 mins)

Session Organisation:

• Set up 2 15x15 yard pitches side by side with a mini goal at the bottom end of each pitch.

• Mark out a scoring zone 5 yards from the goal line.
• Opposite the mini goals place 2 flat markers and divide the players into 2 teams.
• All players start the practice with a ball each. 

Instructions:

• Pick a team that will begin the practice, the first player will dribble, unopposed to the score zone and score in the goal in front of them.

• Once scoring a player from the opposite team must quickly attempt to score in the goal in front of them.
• The original attacker must quickly defend and stop the new attacker from scoring.
• The practice repeats itself, so when a player has attacked they must defend the other goal.
• Work for 4x3 minute periods.

Coaching Points:

• Act quickly in attack and defence. Speed is key.
• Be creative and expressive in the 1v1 using different moves to beat the defender if needed.
• Aggressive dribbling approach.
