The four rotations are just a few that i see this formation using effectively. The over/underlapping runs are what dictate the movement of the other players. Moving to space will open up the wings to make runs on the outside channels. The communication is key to this style of play. Players must know their teammates are making runs and rotate to their position temporarily. Have an attacking mindset in the opponents half. Win the ball back immediately if lost, this type of attacking formation is vulnerable to quick transition attacks.

Wings/ outside backs aare vital to making attacking runs and spreading the opponents defense out. If a wing/back makes a run and retains possession the rest of the formation must move into position to attack the box.

transition
1-4-4-2 transition to a 1-3-5-2 attacking.
As the team breaks out from their defensive shape, the LCB (Harper) transitions to a holding mid position in a 3-5-3 formation. Primary job is to win balls in the center and put them back into service. The LB slides in to form the three back line. The RCB plays high in the attacking third marking the opponents forward. The LB and RB play a little higher and are looking to put balls back to the wings or HM, to find service in the box. The transition relies on mid filed rotations and overlapping/underlapping runs buy the wings and backs.
