OBJECTIVES
To improve teams ability to get in behind the opposition by working with the strikers to make penetrating runs in relation to play.

ORGANISATION
16 players, 2 yellow Gk, 14 red.
4 Mannequins set up as back 4 around 30yds out.
2 Goalkeepers rotate after every 4 attacks.
2 players in striker position at central mannequins. (Position C)
1 wide player at each cone in wide areas. (Position B)
2 central midfielders with ball (Position A) The rest of the players form queue behing position A.
Rotation - Player at A moves to B, player at B replaces player at C that took the shot.
(Striker at C gets the ball after shot and joins the line at A.
ACTIVITY
Players at A pass to each other then pass ball out to position B. (Alternate sides each play)
Player B opens body for 1st touch and then plays ball into the channel for strikers run.
1st Striker then looks to pick out 2nd striker for a shot on goal.
Offside rule applies.
COACHING POINTS
Wide midfielder opens body and takes positive 1st touch.
Strikers stay central till wide players 1st touch.
1st striker arcs run across face and in to the channel.
Timing of run/pass.
Weight of pass.
Communication - Verbal and visual.
2nd strikers initial movement away from ball and then into space for cut back.

ACTIVITY
Players at A pass to each other then pass ball out to position B. (Alternate sides each play)
Player B comes inside and passes to 2nd striker who splits central defenders for the run of the 1st striker.
PROGRESSIONS
1. Players can do either option - this will work on awareness and communication.
2. Add semi passive central defenders.
COACHING POINTS
Wide midfielder takes 1st touch inside.
1st striker checks away and then shows for the ball then arcs run with open body to stay onside and see ball..
Wide player instead plays the ball to the 2nd striker.
2nd striker makes later run across face to play into the path of the 1st striker.

ORGANISATION
16 players, 2 yellowgoalkeepers, 6 red, 6 blue, 2 orange.
Set up with Gk - 2 - (2 + 2) - 2
Supply of balls in each goal.
Half way line marked with flat discs.
ACTIVITY
Teams set up 2 - 2 - 2 with 2 neutral midfielders to make give attacking team numbers up.
Defenders and strikers can not cross half way line. Midfielders play in either half.
PROGRESSIONS
1. Take out half way restriction
2. Take out neutral players and play 2 - 3 - 2
COACHING POINTS
Team in possession create width, strikers stay high and central while play develops.
Strikers movement determined by first touch of wide player.

ORGANISATION
16 players, 8 red.1 yellow Gk, 7 blue.
Play half field, with goal set up at the back of the centre circle.
Red team set up as 2 - 4 - 2, blue team as Gk - 4 - 3.
Use poles to the side of pitch to indicate final/middle 1/3.
ACTIVITY
Red defenders always restart play. Play for a few minutes looking for coachable moment to go in and show first option and alternative.
Blue team score by getting ball into goal at half way line.
OPTION
Wide midfielder or full back plays ball into 2nd striker who plays ball in between 2 centre backs for 1st striker to run on to.
Alternative
IF the pass is not on THEN the 2nd striker should protect the ball and keep possession.
COACHING POINTS
Strikers stay central as play develops (within width of 6yd box).
Wide players create good width.
Movement of 1st striker.
Weight of pass.
Type of finish.
Be patient to draw defending midfield players out to create space.

ORGANISATION AND ACTIVITY AS ABOVE PHASE OF PLAY
OPTION 2
Ball played out to wide midfielder who opens body up on 1st touch and slides it in to the channel for the 1st striker to run on to.
ALTERNATIVE
IF the defenders have denied the space for the ball into the channel and the midfielder is forced inside THEN striker checks run to be an option to feet.
COACHING POINTS
Move ball quickly out to wide player.
Weight of pass.
1st striker arcs run to get in to the channel.
2nd strikers initial movement away from ball and then across the face of goal.
Midfielders supporting runs.
Type of finish.
POTENTIAL PROBLEMS
Defending team sitting off of the play and not allowing any space centrally.
SOLUTION
Award the blue team double for winning ball back in the middle 1/3 of the park and scoring(marked with poles outside pitch - shaded area) as this will hopefully bring defensive midfielders out to win the ball higher up the park.

ORGANISATION
16 players, 12 balls, 6 poles
Split in to 2 groups of 8.
ACTIVITY
Striker (B) goes away, then comes short for ball from midfielder (A), lays off to an angle for A and then spins out to receive through ball and clip into goalkeepers hands.
Players should vary between moving right and left.
Rotation - A to B, B to C and C to A with ball doing some dynamic movements.
PROGRESSIONS
1.Instead of arcing run around poles, Player B drops of to an angle to playa give and go through the poles for player A to run on to. (Rotate player B every 5 passes.)
2. Players can use either option.
Coaching Points
Players should arc run to make sure they stay onside by not going beyond the poles before through ball is played.
