Control Skill Drill (15 Minutes)
Session Aims - To improve Technique of Controlling the ball with differing body varients - To improve decision making on what part of the body to control the ball in different siutations
Organisation
- 4-6 Red & Blue Bibs
- 8-12 Players (10 Used within Diagram)
- 4-6 Balls (For Rotation)
- Area: Centre Circle (Can change based on Age & Ability)
Drill Layout -
Two teams will be positioned the other side of the centre cricle as shown the diagram. The coach will call our two numbers upto 5 for example 2v2 The defenders number will be called out first for example. Players in possession will look to trap and control the ball the one of the three coned areas. Players can run into a sqaure for example and recieve a pass and if they successfully trap or control the ball they score. The defenders must attmept to defend and stop the attackers from scoring. Each team will get 10 minutes each during this.
Key Points -
Encourage players to move off the ball to help create opportunities and give themselves more time and space to score points - Encourage rotation in positions players going from attacking a square to dropping into taking the ball.
Progressions -
Challenge players to control the ball in score zones using undeveloped foot

Players will play an open game some challenges and restrictions throw in to encourage players to use different surfaces of their body to control the ball in training game envrioment and increase confidence and their skill quality.
Progressions -
During each possession each player must control the ball with a different surface of their body each time they recieve the ball

Drill Layout -
Players are selected into two groups (Reds & Blues in Diagram)
One Group spread around the outside of the circle with a ball each.
The inside group inside will perform a movement fouccsed on the quality of controlling the ball and work for 3 minutes before changing with the outside group. Each group performing a task for 1:30 minutes each before swapping. The inside group will find a free outside player and perform the technique and move onto find another free outside player.
1 - Recieve on back foot, turn and pass to a server without the ball.
2 - Server throws the ball into player to control with sole of foot to trap the ball + pass
3 - Server throws the ball into player to control using the thigh + pass
4 - Server throws the ball into player to control using the Chest + pass
5 - Player uses any part of their foot to control the ball
Key Points -
Encourage players to focus on the Control and first touch
Play at their own pace and tempo
Progressions -
Encoruage players to use both feet to control the ball
Encourage players to use the outside of their foot and other more tecnically demanding parts of the foot
