Description

While we will cover both offensive and defensive transitions, we will focus on offensive transitions more. Emphasis on scanning field, decision making (can we go forward or do we need to keep posession), attacking mentality and if we decide to attack it is with speed and taking advantage of having numbers up.

Warm-Up (10 mins)

Ball Manipulation

-1 coach leading while others setup session

-All players with a ball each in ~25x25area (use the field that will become SSG)

-High tempo, different parts of foot, various attacking movements

-Challenge players to get heads up, no collisions, try new things

Initial Game (15 mins)

3v3 + 2 entering game 20x25 multiple setups

- blue team always starts with ball, trying to score on opposite goal

- red defends compactly and tries to gain possession

- as soon as red team wins it their 2 helpers can enter the game to make it 5v3

- must get chance on goal within 5 seconds.

- Repeat with same teams then switch after a few mins to give other players a chance with the advantage

Focus on: recognizing moments we can penetrate quickly, speed of attack, take advantage of having numbers up

Analytical (15 mins)

5v5 --> 7v5 with support coming from behind 1/2 field functional

- team of 5 (red - 1GK, 2 FB, 1CB, 1 HM) always starts with ball, trying to score in 2 small pugs

-if team of 5 (blue - 1 F, 2 W, 2 AM) wins ball their supporting players (1 HM, 1 CB/FB depending where ball is) can enter from behind

-must make decision: do we spot an opportunity to go forward or do we need to secure possession then go forward?

Focus on: compact defensive pressur, calm decision making once we have won the ball, speed of attack if going forward, and movement off ball up top if we have played back to secure possession

Final Game (15 mins)

6 v 6, utilize neutrals if necessary

-Free play

Focus on: decision making when we have won the ball, as well as all things covered leading up to this (defensively: initial pressure on ball to win it back, aggressive mentality, compactness... offensively: scanning field, quickly taking advantage of numbers up, recognizing when to secure possession)
