A squad practice based on the theme of switching the playing, retaining possession and creating chances using the overload. Using a 6 aside pitch 35 yards x 25 yards with two channels one each side of the pitch. To score the attackingteam has to play with a wide player and get into the other half before finishing or play with the pivot to switch the play and create overloads to score.
Coaching Points Weight and Quality of Pass:
In any collective SSG passing will be important, to the extent that sometimes the difference between getting advantage on the defending team will be down to quick play and balls into the timing runs.
- Movement to Switch Play: Creating the right angles with movement will be a key asset to success in this SSG. Constantly moving on the inside and on the outside will help the player on the ball make an easier decision to retain possession or be able to break forward.
Decision Making: Players on the inside will have to make very quick decisions if they want to gain advantage. Depending on the context and where they regain possession they will have to adapt their decision making. Players on the outside don’t always have to play the ball into the box but as they are only on one touch their decision will have to be made and executed quickly.
Cross and Finish: The executions will have to be made at speed to surprise the opposition. The crosses need to bedelivered to the players in the best conditions possible as must the ball being passed into the players in the outsidechannels as this will help them with the execution of the cross.
