Grid was 34 long bye 48 wide. Wing backs played in the outside and created a 4 and a 5 vs 9,10,6 and 8. The goalkeepers were used to as outlets to play when in possession. Built up with wing backs playing on outside of lines unapposed. Then if able to score or assist, can drive in to play off the front front player. goals behind the keepers.
Coaching Points: This game is exactly what we need, some crossing practice (much needed) along with some more positional stuff. both teams play a 3-2-1-2 with two wingbacks/wingers. those wide players will balance defensively with the team as a 2/3 but also will press defensively up the wings as the ball is switched to their side. this creates an overload of pressure on the ball side and a simultaneous balancing on the far side as the opposide side winger drops back into a defensive area.

11 v 11 game with set pieces
if we understood the numbers before I think explaining the roles like this makes sense. if we could combine the attributes of some of the positions we talked about in the 4-3-3, look at my numerical interpretation of how that role translates over to the 3-5-2. in the above example the ball is possessed by the opponent on THEIR right side. OUR 11/3 will step and press that. 4 plays off his inside shoulder and looks to step and cover 113 should he be beat. 47 slides to the left and provides strong balance, and 55 tucks inside to follow as 7/2 drops in as the outside back.
16 and 26 play in front of the backline and prevent penetration. when the ball is won they look to play short and distribute quickly, playing at angles. 89 plays ahead of them and is encouraged to connect as the cm should, but he should play ahead of them and ALWAYS look to defend from behind the ball.
96 can play ahead of the play if he thinks we may win the ball back and is setting up for a counter in good space, but 10 can look to play as far as he can up top and stretch the other team. we need to

Diagram above shows the pattern of the ball moving. and how to set it up around the activity we were doing before. Once players are up to speed get 4 balls moving at once. Start with a turn and dribble, bounce pass and diagonal pass. 1-2 etc. Emphasis was on communication and speed of play as well as players solving the problems quickly when the exercise broke down.
