Description

WHAT: GK/GK Coach Training / Defending the Goal & Area

WHEN: In Defense when the opposition is in possession attempting to serve a ball into the box or shoot on goal

WHERE: Defensive 3rd (Full Width) Right and Left Chanells

WHY: To improve the goalkeeper's ability to deal with this specific situation based on the possible outcomes that can occur

INTENSITYLow - Medium (Many breaks and a quality physical warm-up and stretch)

OBJECTIVE: Improve the GK/#1's ability to defend the area while effectively dealing with different flank services focusing on the technical aspect. The session will include handling and footwork as well as 1v1 breakaway situation in the final activity.

Warm up (15 mins)

Training Objectives: Improve Goalkeepers handling techniques, footwork and ability to play with feet.

(contour, basket, smother & side contour technique)


Intensity: Low- Medium


Exercise #1

Instructions: 2 - 3 Servers will play 5 balls each to gk hands. Goalkeeper will align hips to shooter and focus on the ball while implementing set position. Excercise will progress to Goalkeeper shuffling feet to get in line with striker.


A.1 hand catch stationary A2.1 hand catch then shuffle to outside of box

B. Contour stationary B2. Short shuffle to opposite server

C. use inside of foot only using 2 touches to pass then shuffle to box for shot from server

D. Play 1st touch across body using opposite foot to pass

E. Drop step then play driven ball to target


Exercise #2

Objective: Improve Goalkeepers lateral and vertical movement incorporating various handling techniques to improve muscle memory and biomechanics.

Instructions; Goalkeeper starts from either the front, back or side of the box. Gk then uses proper footwork and a quick 1st step to deal with the strike from server.


A. Forward - Start in set position step forward maintain correct hand placement and load set position

B. Backwards - Nose in front of toes. Shoulders slightly bent forward. Maintain balance

C. Sideways - 1.Use drop set then shuffle

2.Use drop step then cross step


Progression of service/ handling technique


1. Half Volley/Contour

2, Full Volley/Contour

3. Driven off ground/Contour, basket or side contour

4. Low-driven ball/Smother or scoop


Exercise #3 : Low Ball Techniques


A. Start In couch position

B. Start in the squat position

C. Jump over hurdle vertically

D. Double Jump over hurdle horizontally

Footwork / High Ball (10 mins)

A. Volley and then sideways through and up for a high ball


B.

Round 1) Single steps through and volley from S and then gets body shape open to deal with a tosed ball into box use crossover step to make save

Round 2) Round sideways through turn for volley and then deal with ball tossed to back post.


C. GK on angle for serve from S and then sideways through with hips shoulders to server and then a ball is tossed in air or bounced ball cannot hit ground second time if bounced

Commanding The Box (15 mins)

INSTRUCTIONS: GK deals with cross from S in crowded area. GK drops then must deal with a live shot from opposite side of service. Red players are a distraction as well as follow rebounds during live shot scenario.


Round 1: GK handles flank service followed by shot from S2

Round 2: GK handles service then immedietly sling throw to one of the goals

Round 3: GK deal with shot from S3 then deals with a tow goal situation from endline

Box Challenge (15 mins)

Instructions:


Server plays a 50/50 flighted, driven or bent ball into the box. GK that wins ball quickly puts ball on ground for a 1v1 vs opposing GK.
