Crossing & Heading
Organisation
Using two goals, split players into two teams to include GK, 2 defenders, 1 striker and 2 wide players; Use two yellow servers in the centre circle to commence play each time.
Yellow Servers pass the ball out to one of the wide players positioned on either flank.
Wide player seeks to cross towards the attacker who must try and score.
Defenders try to get to the ball first and head for distance.
Progressions
1. Yellow server joins the attack, or as an alternative one of the opposing flank players can come in and attack the far post.
Coaching Points
- Defenders must assess the cross and decide who will attack the ball. - communication is key.
- One must seek to head for distance and height when clearing, the other should be looking to provide cover and support.
- If an attacker picks up the first clearance then both should be ready to react - communication is important.
- Attempting to get to the ball first should be stressed.
