Ball Mastery: Turn Moves Through Gates

Area: (25x25)


Players will learn turn moves: 1. Inside Hook (Chop) 2. Outside Hook 3. Step-over Turn and If kids do well 4. Cruyff Turn.

Players will dribble through gates then use turn moves to go back through Gates. Have them do 1 round to practice the move then a 2nd will be a competiton to see who wins.


Progressions:

Have different colored cones and make them alternate colors, or make them do colors in a certain pattern.


Key Points:

 Pushing Ball with laces or pinky toe

 Heads up

 Changing direction with turn moves

 Accelerating out of moves

Three 4x4 boxes in corners, different colors.


 Part #1: 1v0

 1 Player

  1 Ball

All players move freely in the grid. Coach calls out color, player must quickly dribble into box of correct color for 1 pt.



Part #2: 1v1

Players compete 1v1, must dribble into colored box that coach calls out when he/she plays in the ball.


Progressions: Coach can change color mid-1v1, and can send in multiple 1v1s at a time to keep intensity high and add congestion. Coach can also vary point amounts for each repetition to keep it close.

Coaching Points:

 Keep ball close

 Protect the ball -- Shielding technique -- ball on or under far foot, away from defender

 Turn away from defender fast

 Look around for correct colored zone

 Speed up away from defender towards zone

Phase 1: Players will start off playing normal game of tag one player will hold a pinnie and once they tag someone they drop it. Only rule no tag backs.


Phase 2: Everyone will have ball except 1 or 2 (depending on numbers) these players will be taggers (Have them wear pinnies). Taggers can only "Tag" someone by tackling/poking ball away or forcing players out of bounds. At that time the player who is tagged freezes and holds their ball above their head. 2 more players will have pinnies on different from the taggers, these players are releasers.. They can only release the frozen players by kicking the ball between their legs. Releasers can not be tagged. Game ends after 2-3 minutes or if the taggers freeze all the players.
