GK: Paired Warmups (5 mins)

Instructions:

  • Goalkeeping Warmups: Volley to Hands/Chest - Toss to Feet Ect.

Coaching Points:

  • Strong Hands

  • Get your body in front of the ball.

Rotating Reaction Saves (20 mins)

Instructions:

  • One Goalkeeper Starts at the Left Post. They Receive Shot one that makes them go to Ground. After Shot One, the Goalkeeper Must Recover Quickly and Save Shot Two Across Goal. Shooter Two Will Only Shoot After the Goalkeeper has Recovered onto Both Feet. 
  • If Run With 3 Goalkeepers, Rotate Each Position Clockwise. If 4+, Rotate Clockwise, Have Goalkeeper in Goal Rotate out to Collect Ball After Their Save. 

Coaching Points:

  • How can you recover quickly as a goalkeeper? 
  • Where do you want your save to go? (Away from the mouth of goal - Pushed away, Ect.)
  • Make yourself big for the second save. Use your entire body to block the goal. (Stay Big)

Progressions/Regressions:

  • P: Shooters can now shoot the ball off of the ground. 
  • R: Shooters must roll the ball towards goal.

Across Goal Reaction Saves (20 mins)

Instructions:

  • Goalkeeper Starts at Red Cone, Guarding Their Near Post. Ball Starts on One of the Wings and is Cut Back Across the Penalty Box. Goalkeeper Adjusts Accordingly to Make the Save Across Goal.  
  • Shooter can Follow Up on the Saved Shot if it is not Saved Away from Danger. 
  • Rotate Players every 5 Shots, or as Coach sees fit. 

Coaching Points:

  • Near Post Positioning: How are you guarding your near post? Can the person crossing score from your positioning?
  • Closing Space: First steps across goal - Are you making negative or positive steps. 

Progressions/Regressions:

  • P: Shooter can shoot back across goal. 
  • P: Goalkeeper must start on one knee. Simulating previous parry. 
  • R: Shooter must use hands.

Goalkeeper Wars (15 mins)

Instructions:

  • Keeper Wars: 
  • You are allowed 3 Touches on the Ball. Saves are not added in this total. 
  • Saves can Start in the Hands of Opposing Goalkeeper. Balls that have gone out return to Feet. 
  • You can Score with Throws, Volleys, Half-Volleys, Ect. 
  • Rotate Goalkeepers After Every Goal (&-or) Have a Time Limit on Rounds. 

Coaching Points:

  • Acknowledge your opponent and how they are planning on scoring. 
  • Anticipate: How should you react to different shots? 
  • Space: How big is your goal? Are you leaving too much space open?

Progressions/Regressions:

  • P: Make the field longer/wider. 
  • P: Extra points for harder goals. (Ie. Half Volleys, One Touch)
  • R: Make the field smaller/narrower.
