Aim


To increase the speed that the GK can make small movements in and around the goal so that he can always be set for the incoming shot on goal.

Ladder run (20 mins)

Ladder run


Aim


To work on the GK's foot movements before moving into the goal for the shot



Instructions


The GK will work his way through a ladder (using different foot movements each time) before moving into the goal to receive a shot

(Ball remains live)



Progression


At the start and the end of the ladder the GK is to lye on his stomach



Coaching points


  • The GK moves at speed through the ladder but makes good foot movements
  • A sprint into the goal and a firm set position
  • Ball is secured

Aim


To have the GK's making quick foot movements out of positions and then to move in line with the ball for the shot on goal. 



Instructions


The GK will start in the centre of his goal and on his line


The c will name a colour, the GK will touch this colour with his foot and move to be in line with the ball for a shot

(The GK has to be given time to get set for the shot)


Left, centre, right to be covered (x2)



Progression


At the start, 2 or 3 colours will be given, once the 1st save is done, the GK moves back to the start marker and repeats (x2/3)



Coaching points


  • The GK should be moving at speed in order to get set
  • Early eyes on the next ball
  • Each ball secured

Aim


To have the GK using a range of movements in order to receive a ball and pass it back to the coach



Instructions


The GK will move forward around a cone, backwards around another cone and then move in front of the ball to receive and return

  • Control & pass
  • 1 touch pass
  • low dive
  • medium dive
The balls should be hand served to encourage the GK to secure each ball and return it to the coaches hands!!

  • The GK is using short sharp foot movements
  • Early eyes on the ball
  • GK is moving towards the ball and not backwards

Aim


Making the GK use a series of movements to get into position to receive a sharp shot



Instructions


The GK will start on her line and facing out to the ball.


On command, she will move forward at speed and set in the mini-goal for the volley



Progression


1. The GK will move through the poles using short sharp foot movements, we want to see the GK getting faster with each progression

2. Moving onto a low dive at each side (step, drive, dive) in order to get a longer dive to save the shot



Coaching points


  • With the ball to body, the weight should be forward and the ball secured.
  • The GK is stepping into the dive and over his knee to ensure the dive moves forward
  • 2 hands are reaching out for the ball

Quick shot (20 mins)

Quick shot


Aim


To make the GK move quickly for a 2nd shot on goal



Instructions


The GK will move through the poles and set in front of c1 for a straight shot which he should secure

Moving to low dives at each side


Progression


The initial shot should be to the (right), the GK is to get back to his feet for the early shot from c2. This shot should be away from the GK. (The GK should have made his dive and almost only has to stand up to deal with the 2nd shot



Coaching points


  • The GK is using fast balanced movements to get into position
  • The GK is rising immediately to his feet to move for the 2nd shot
  • The GK is pushing into the dives
