Organization: 15x7 meter grid. As many as required.
Instructions: First player passes to the receiver. Receiver tries to score 1v1. Passer must defend and can do so as soon as they pass the ball. Drill repeats at the same end until coach changes.
Coaching Points:
1) Defensive players travel as fast as they can when the ball is travelling to reduce the amount of ground the attacker can cover.
2) Defender arcs their run to force the attacker 1 way or the other and uses the touchline as an extra defender. Try to make the play more predictable.
3) Do not dive in. Hustle and jostle. Force a mistake.
4) Body position should be side on not square on. Facing the way the defender wants the attacker to go.
5) Toe poke if possible.
6) Back foot block tackle if attacker runs at/past defender.
7) If beaten, defender must sprint to catch attacker.
8) If ball won by defender, then quick break ounter attacks should immediately occur towards the other goal.
9) Attackers first touch should trigger the defenders first movement and give them an idea of where to defend.
